Got me another tether car
This one is a beautiful and very rare Cox So-Cal Special (Southern California) Thimble Drome tether car. Stunning in two tone red and white, it is in as new condition. All parts are polished and original, Fine (brand) engine turns freely with good compression, no wear, no stains, no chips. Check out the pictures. I love the way the square tail pipe exits the body...just like the latest Jaguar...these things are fast taking over as my main hobby..but it's the cost that is the killer..

That is another work of art! What is the vintage on that car? I know thiat tether racing is an extremely old hobby. Do they still make these things and where do you run them?

Re: Got me another tether car
Thanks guys this one is from the 1940's and has been restored by someone. They don't make these anymore..well at least not like this..you can buy some repo parts for them readily... they do still race tether cars but they are modern often rocket powered cars that reach over 200 mph...and I buy them off ebay..in fact because they are so rare here in NZ I've found a ready market for them..been buying some that are beat up and restoring them..I've been getting really good money for them on a local auction site..some like this one I will keep.
Re: Got me another tether car
I went out and did some research on these, looks like they started this in the late 30's. Those are a cool peice of history.

Re: Got me another tether car
I have a Cameron Rodzy and a Cox Thimble Drome Champion. The Rodzy has been re-painted and has a set of 1/12 Bolink foam tires. The Thimble Drome is all original and in amazing condition.
Those old tether cars are really cool but pricey!
