Another Resto from the Weekend - TCP

This was another one that I managed to get done over this past weekend. I think this car is totally under-rated. I love how this thing goes together. Quality of the parts, I think, are superior to Associated and Losi. I like the plated hinge pins and the screws. Fitment of the arms and related tolerances seem to be done very nicely. I have never run one or any of the older Traxxas products, but I have been told the week link is the tranny. I have one body for two cars. I still know where the original molds are, I just need to make an effort to get my hands on them. The only part that is not new is the motor plate of which I will replace when I find one.

Traxxas TCP, pretty much the same thing as a TRX-3.

you wanna unload one of those TCP's?

I saw Brandon's last weekend, they are very cool cars. The tranny's were fine but the diff is hard to get smooth, I never did like those spring washers. The slipper was funky too with the little pegs, you couldn't run them loose at all.
I beat a lot of rc10's and XX's with my TRX3, it still holds a place in my heart cause the TRX3 was my first brand new RC I ever had.
Very nice car Jay.

Interesting that you mention the quality of the fit and finish of the components.
The TRX-1 has rather nominal tolerances (apart from the shocks). Perhaps the black components are of a better quality.

Nice looking cars aren,t they, I have a very similar looking one here.
Mine has rear dogbones not the sliders, did the TCP have sliders or not?
Also has longer front red springs, which would be the correct ones?

I'm certainly no expert on traxxas, but those dogbones look a lot like the MIP bones upgrade for the losi cars. I don't recall ever seeing a stock traxxas with those.

At some point I time I had or maybe still have a TRX1 dog bone conversion kit from Thorp/Dirt Burners. Yours might be on of those. The TRX1 and TRX3 both have sliders. I would say since your suspension parts are white, that is definitely a TRX3.

The TCP had the Traxxas dogbone conversion in the kit as an option, so you could mount either. Also it was available as an upgrade for the TRX-3 from Traxxas. If I had to guess, I'd say somebody just got the dogbone kit from Traxxas and installed it.

I really like this car too. I have it on my wishlist. Totally underrated and way under the radar for a vintage racing buggy.
