FRANKENSTEIN RC10CE Graphite Runner restoration project

This thing is a FRANKENSTEIN. It started out simply as a clean RC10CE Graphite (with Bushing, couldn't afford bearings at that time).

I was in the 4th grade at that time, so I really couldn't afford too many things. I would scour the track for worn out ball cups and turnbuckles and even used some from my JRX-T that I later bought to keep this thing running (the JRX-T didn't need the turnbuckles since it got converted to an LXT via conversion kit).

I just ordered a TON of parts from AE. Their online store is great. They don't try to gouge you, they're just getting rid of old parts, which for us nostalgic RC10ers is a perfect...

For me, I want to get this to be somewhat of a runner, so I don't mind whether the parts are white or black nylons...

I have a Pro-Tech Velcro strap that I need to install. First thing first though, I'm going to take the entire car apart and clean and service it... The stealth transmission was later installed when AE released it separately. I've installed it, and maybe ran this car with one or two battery pack before I shelved it again 10 years ago (the original purchase was about 20 years ago).

Here are some pics of my Frankenstein. I'm going to slowly restore it with some parts from the past, as well as some modern parts (like good turnbuckles and ball cups, Novak GTX and Revenge of the Monster stock motor).

This will mostly sit next to my other shelf queen, which is a re-re of the Tamiya Fire Dragon.

That looks like a great base to start with. If it were me, I'd dye all the plastic black which would make it look consistent.

I recently purchased over $100 worth of parts from AE for this machine... Since their parts only went as far back as the black nylons, I'm going back and replacing anything I can with the black ones...

I just gotta get off my lazy butt and off internet forums and actually work on it!

It's going to be a total tear-down. I need to remove all my racing stickers and servo tape gunk off the chassis, clean it, then re-seal the edges with CA, then, clean all the moving parts...

After that, need to laminate the underside with some chassis tape that I bought in excess of and stopped using every since under-trays are now available for all the popular vehicle...

Regarding that thread I saw on here about the MIP 4wd kit, I would TOTALLY BUY ONE WITHOUT HESITATION if Mr. Moore were to release that again... Seems like a neat thing to add to this restoration project...

DON'T TAKE THE STICKERS OFF!!!! THAT'S VINTAGE RACING HERITAGE!!! I love that stuff on restored racers, looks awesome because that's what we all did back then

Hey adam,

I was going to take the number stickers that were used during racing.

Regarding Vintage stickers of Futaba, and other people, I still have them... I was a pack rat when I was a kid (still am I think ) and I have tons of vintage stickers...

Gonna stick them all over the place after I do my paint job on the new Viper body that I had (the original was loooooooong shredded, that's why you see the protech one on there).

Tom, great to see you made it over here. I was digging through my boxes the other day and found a white battery cup (and other assorted AE related parts). Its yours if you want it, shoot me a PM and we can figure out how to get it to you.

Get that thing running, I'll race you with this awesome LXT I have...
