I just scored an Associated FT RC12L4 and I'm having a hard time finding a steering servo for it that doesn't cost a zillion dollars,can anyone suggest something that'll do the trick without breaking the bank?

For 1/12th you need a good servo dont cheap out it's worth it to get a good one.

Yeah,I'm noticing most people using really good servos,like the Futaba S9650...The hunt continues.

Don't cheap out, precision in 1/12 is of the utmost importance. Consistent centering is the biggie. Can't go wrong with any of the above.

Right on,I'm looking at the Futaba S9650.Looks like a good servo.
Man,I have a few really nice,top end standard size sevos,but no minis that'll fit my RC12L4.
If anyone has a mini servo that will fit my 12L4,I have a nice JR DS8411 I'd trade?

I started using an S9650 when I upgraded to FASST. I snagged mine on ebay used for a little savings over retail. A great servo and it seems to be the go to servo for 12th scalers. Before that I used an S3002 metal gear servo. It was a little slower but it was a very stout servo.

How dumb am I ?'1 1/2 scale'?

You won't regret it. Quick little servo even on 4.8 volts and even quicker if you use a 5 cell reciever pack. I'm just a basher still running brushed motors but I use a Futaba MC401CR. Small, lightweight and a 10 turn motor minimum. Reversible with lockout. Probably not the best if you want to race. I got it for $50 at Tower some time ago. I see they don't carry it anymore but Tower now has the newer MC601 for the same price. I'm clueless when it comes to brushless so I can't help you there.

Cool. I'm running 4 4600mah cells with a 10x2 brushed motor...All my other cars are brushless and LI-PO powered,apart from my vintage stuff,but no matter how hard I tried,I just couldn't squeeze a Mamba Max and a 7500kv brushless in there!
I was just lookin' at those Futaba ESC's...Nice low profile on those suckers and they'll handle my 10x2,too.

Happy to help. 1/12th scale fans seem to be a bit of a minority these days. Glad to help keep the genre going.

If you can find an LRP QC2 they are tiny and will handle a 10 turn, after you run the car one time I think you'll find that a stock motor is plenty with a little 12th scaler.

I don't know why,but every single LRP ESC I've owned has died on me!
Like,four of 'em...I have an LRP Sphere Competition in my X-60 and it works,but it's tough to get it to go into the setup mode-I think the momentary 'set' switch is,or has died.
I'm not going to be using the 12L4 a whole lot,so I don't want to spend big bucks on a real high end ESC,just something that'll do the trick.
I have a 10x2 in it at the moment and on 4 cells it should be plenty.
Those Futaba ESC's look like a good option,right now.

Oh,what the hell-here's a photo of the sucker (with the previous owner's running gear still in it).
The factory 12L4 box came packed full of NIP parts and a spare chassis,there's probably enough to build a whole car in there.
Love the Factory Team stuff...

They are just so responsive to the smallest input from the transmitter or the slightest change in setup.

Hmmm...Here's something you might be able to help me with-the 12L4 I bought came with some NIP tires.
The rear tires on the car right now have no offset-the inner mounting hub is directly inline with the outer rim.
The new spares I got have about 5mm of offset on them-the inner mounting hub is about 5mm in from the inner rim and the tires rub on the rear pod,on the left.
Is there some way of using these on the 12L4?
Shim them,maybe?

Yep, you got it. Shim the rear axle. I had the same surprise when I bought some Parma wheels and tires after running Jacos.
