Thanks Mr. Ed

What advantages would the Fibre Lyte kit offer over the stock chassis??

Rigidity?? Durability?? Weight Savings?? Looks?? I would really like to get a conversion kit, but I want to make sure that I'm not just buying it for the looks...

I'll probably still buy it...

If you want to use the original universals up front, Kyosho USA still has 87 sets of the # W-5061 Universals $30.00 USD. These also fit the entire Optima / Optima Mid series of 4wd's ( Javelin etc.... ), and also fit the Ultima series of cars as well. The rear universals for the Lazer ZX / ZXR W-5063 have just recently been discontinued with no stock available.

I still have the original universals, I just wanted to convert the ZX from the friction/hex system that it has, to a modernized drive pin/hex system, so that I can use modern wheels without affecting the front width...

I'll keep my original bits just in case...

Thank you.

P.S. I'll try and post pictures soon...

Here are some long overdue pictures of my Lazer ZX. So far, the only thing I've done to it, besides taking the Old ESC out, is add a set of ZX-5 SP 60.5mm swing shafts, Kyosho clamping hexes and Kyosho Mesh Front wheels.

Still deciding whether to dye the rear wheels black or leave them white.

The other pictures show how well a modern Reedy 5000mah Lipo fits underneath the belt guard. I have a set of saddle pack lipos, but I just wanted to show that stick packs fit the ZX very well.

I'm still trying to find out how to replace the old Kyosho Spur gear, with a modern 48p Spur.... any Ideas, suggestions are more than welcome....

Back in the days when the first Lazer zx came out the car was designed with optima style wheels in mind and those wheels have the same offset front/rear.

But modern wheels W-5026/5027, 2,2 zxr, zxr MKII, zxr-r and zxs evo wheels have an different of set in the front then in the rear to move the kingpin further in the wheel.
So the solution was an front hub with an extra hole on the inside to widen the car but to do that you will need an longer Front shaft W-5063

And yes they use the same wheels on the Lazer ZX5 cars and as seen in picture you can get those beutiful mesh wheels that was used on the TR15 i know since i use them W-6061/6063.

Regarding The Rear hubs thare are different hubs that fit the car SP 107 ( make sure that you put un 3 mm shim on top ) for example do fit and the SP 107 H ( same just in carbon material ) And SP 107V and SP 107V2 providing different toe in.
You can also fit the 3racing rear hubs for the zx5 they fit i have done that.

For those who need/want W-5063 i can provide some since i have 5 nip sets in the tool box
Otherwise as written before its possible to fit new style LA232 and 231 swings shafts and LAW30 blue clamp on wheel hexes.

On my car i use MIP swing shaft for the PROX they are a bit longer then W-5063 but works fine and they use hexes with pin but i have fitted the LAW30 clamp on.

Hey Isobarik,

What about the Spur gear?? what are my options??

I want to run a modern 48p Spur. The one on the ZX is the 48p but the 0.6 module?? I won't be able to use the regular 48p pinions, right??

Is the rear wheel offset the same between the OE Lazer wheel and the spoke wheel?

I like those, they are nice indeed!

Get you a full set of those, a moulded wing, and a new body and it would look like a mini kanai!

BTW, Kyosho has moulded 1/10 wings in stock:
Blue: 39371BL
Yellow: 39371KW
White: 39371W

But when its an 0.6 module its an 0.6 module not an 48p

Yeah i know what you mean, Cheap but hard way is to try to find the 48p version of th same spur the TM-7 they dont cost much but are very hard to find.

There is an guy that are making these but they are not finished yet.

The easy but expensiv way is to get the LAW12 and an LA118 its an entirely new slipper assembly and an special slipper plate ( dont know the exactly name for it ) And order a bunch of 100 tooth machined spurgear from RW racing in uk ( this is what i have done ) price on LAW12 and LA118 togheter are roughly 140$ include shipment to us.

The embarising way is to get down on youre knees and beg me to send you an TM-7 but then you will be my bitch for life ....

I have done what you are trying to do.

Have a look at radiocontrolzone, there is a thread for zx/zxr/alpha etc with every conceivable thing tested and done. I redesigned the car and updated it to compete with brushless and it works.

I would seriously avoid the zx5 rear hubs as you need another hole on the hub. I have been using the ultima rb type r rear hub and made the rear end fractionally narrower and makes the car easier to drive. Dont make the rear wider but defonately widen the front.

Read up on what we have all posted as its all there. Fibre lyte make a better product than what kyosho did, plus on their site all mods i have done and others are listed so a lot to choose. The zx steering plate is perfect and would not use the zxr angled one as it gives bumpsteer.

Any questions just pm me, im more than happy to help.

Jay Dub wrote:The rear arm bracket #2 refers to the amount of toe in the rear hinge pin. This block gives the car 2 degrees of toe per side. The front block alters the amount of static anti squat the car has. There is no "Right" way to run it. It also has an effect on roll center. If you are having a problem with rear traction, the arms run closest to level (ie least amount of anti squat) would do three major things -One it allows more weight to transfer to the rear under acceleration (giving traction) allows more weight to transfer side to side (higher roll center), and it allows less weight to transfer forward during braking (providing less off throttle steering). It will also have a minor effect on rear camber gain which would provide more forward bite and less side bite (in a medium to high bite situation). I could go on and on, but these are the main points. Ultimatelly the car needs more rear toe (preferably in the inner hinge pin area) But it would be easier to add/find rear hubs that have 1 degree per side. Class dismissed -Jeff
I ordered all the SP hubs they had at kyosho

SP-107 ( oop )
SP-107H
SP-107V
SP-107V2

All these hubs have the 3 bottom holes and the H hub is just reinforced ( hard )
The SP-107/H has 1 more hole further out towards the wheel.
V standard hub, but the V2 provides 2 degrees more toe in per side. for added stability.

So if you want more toe in the V2 is the way to go.

mvh isobarik

All these hubs fit the lazer zx and they should be avaliable att kyosho america also.

Mounted a JC body and wing on the ZX and it looks pretty good, I'll probably run it like this at the VONATs, the tires will be replaced by more appropriate tires when the time comes.
