TRX-1........now I realy want one.

After reading through some of the posts in this section I have decided I would like to get my hands on a new built or near new built TRX-1 car.
Ive always liked the looks of this car with its wide yet sleak aerodynamic body and I can remember them racing around back in the early 90's with some success at my old club. I have a pile of questions so if anyone can fill me in on some facts i would be greatful for your help.
First of all, is the transmission in this car capable of handling todays electrics? Im thinking 19 turn / 10.5 here. Also was there a black version of this car as well as the white? Why are some of the cars fitted with blue shocks and caps while some have gray bodies and blue caps? Did every TRX1 come with spoked rims or were some released with the rims that had 'speed holes' come standard. Is the diff and slipper a quality unit or would it be possible to fit an RC10 stealth trans in this car?
I think this car would be a great vintage racer and Im interested to hear from others on their thoughts when it comes to the performance.

Now i know its taboo to ask what something is worth so i wont bother. Instead if someone has seen these cars selling recently either on ebay or other sources it would be good to learn what kind of $$ i will need to net one of these gems. I dont want to go making people offers only to insult them so a little back ground wouldn't go astray here.

Thankyou- Jason. :D

I ran mine with typically a 13 turn single, and it handled it no problem in a bashing situation. The trans is very similar to a stealth(I've seen that the prototype units used a stealth before the factory part was ready), the slipper is pretty good, except it uses little rulon pegs, so you have to be careful you don't lose them(still available though).

I know the very first ones had the all-blue shocks, since the teflon ones weren't ready yet. Mine has the teflon shocks, so it was a later production car.

as for the white/black deal, I can only guess they followed suit with associated, and used black parts that were less uv sensitive/probably cheaper. they also seem tougher, some of my old white parts seem very brittle now.

can't say about the wheels. lots of parts are still available, too, if not, alot of the latest traxxas stuff has carried through, so parts might be black, or gray, and shaped differently, but will work, for the most part.

the only thing i disliked for all the traxxas cars I have, is that the turnbuckles and screws would rust kind of quickly. I guess that will happen with any cars that use mild steel/thin coatings, but i always switched to stainless or titanium hardware(I had a good stash from an aerospace source).

the only other issue is that the plastic outdrives were weak, but traxxas makes metal outdrives now. this was very common on the bullet, but I don't think I ever had a problem with the trx1

oh yeah, this just occurred to me, the original shock towers were kinda brittle, I ended up breaking both the front and rear. The graphite was too hard or something, kind of hard to explain. I have replecements now, but they offer black fiberglass peices as replacements, if you can find them.

originally, i just made replacements from yellow/white g10 material i had on had, which worked better with a little flex.

I've always wanted a TRX-1 or TRX-3. Problem is that they are rare and when you do find them, they are basket cases. Last year, someone was selling an NIB TRX-3 with a BIN or best offer. I don't remember what I offered but it was declined. He had the bin set to something outrageous like $800. I don't think it ever sold.

I found a auction for 2 and only paid $150. Cleaned them both up and the one I kept is near mint with some new parts (shock towers and gear cover). The other I cleaned up and sold. I would guess a new one will go for a bit more than what I paid but if you keep an eye out on e-bay you should be able to snag one pretty resonably. I don't think many people remember these since there were out for only a short period :?:

I think you could easily fit a stealth in there, the bigger problem to solve would be the cvd length and rear hubs.

I'm watching it too, but I'm not going to bid. I still have the one that I bought as a kid, so I don't feel the need for a second. That one does look nice.

Bormac, you out bid me!

If you want you can have it sent to me and I can send it to you and get you a tracking #. I have a lot of NIP parts I don't need so I could toss some of those in there as well if you plan on restoring it? PM me

Sorry Konich, I just punched in my highest bid near auction close and I guess I won it. Ive contacted the seller and he replied with this-
Dear bormac_073,

payment clears i will ship

...and my response to this quote was as follows-
Hello Buch, thank you for taking the time to organise me that price for
shipping to Australia. While i do appreciate your efforts I might have to
ask you re-check that price as its about 6 times what actual shipping
charges are from the USA to Australia. Alternatively I have friends in the
USA I could have the TRX-1 shipped to. What is shipping inside of the USA
going to cost me please? Many thanks-Jason Millward

It shouldn't cost any more than $50 USD to ship that box dependent on how much it weighs. I am sure it qualifies for Priority International Mail, but certainly not $300 worth of shipping.
