I don't have many vintage non RC10s but here's one. This is my Parma sport truck. I got it back in '88. I was 10-11, somewhere around there. It was my second kit rc vehicle. I didn't use it very much. Probably the biggest reason why the body is so nice.

ya, i always liked the way that body looked. i think that's what drew me to it back in the day.
that was the first lexan body i ever painted. not too bad for a 10-11 year old.

i'll have to get some. i wish the chassis was as nice as the body. these had a very cheesey front end. i also found out they were pretty fragile, too. more or less, i broke a piece on the front end, and couldn't find a replacement for it. so, i made a front end out out of the lower sections of the rc10 rear towers, and a pr of rc10L front ams. not my best fabrication work, as i was fairly young when i did it. but, it worked.

Whoa!
"not too bad for a 10-11 year old." is an understatement.
Any age would be proud of that one.
Very, very nice job.

Somebody else who may be more knowledgeable on the subject can chime in but this is how I look at it which can be completely wrong.

To me there are two different classes. There are sport trucks and then there are mini trucks.
As far as I'm aware truck customizing blew up in the 80's here and carried into the early to mid 90's before dying. The reason I say the 80's is because van customizing was the big thing in the 70's.
Sport trucks are when you mainly customize your truck for increased performance and handling along with subtle or unobtrusive cosmetic changes or ones that aid in performance. I guess you can say turning your truck into a pro-touring type machine. Back then that phrase wasn't coined yet so sport trucks was the term used, and still is.
Mini trucks are customized solely for looks, and performance and handling are an afterthought. Extreme drops and body modifications are prevalent. Along with crazy paint jobs and interiors which usually comprise of lots of electronics and fiberglass. Back in the 80's the trucks that were the most popular to do this to were with our compact models thus is where the term "mini" trucking came from.

So basically, sport trucks are equivalent to "tuners" and mini trucks are equivalent to "ricers".
