Anyone with knowledge of the original kit? I just got one in trade that is new in the box from 1987. I did some Google-ing and it looks as though there is a cheaper, or newer version? This was partially built, but never ran. I'm not sure if I'm keeping yet or not. It's cool, and would look great on my desk! :D

They made two kits one was just the NSR500 and the other was called the HOR series where the rider would shift and hang a knee out when you turned the bike. they use small futaba radio equipment like the ones in the 1/20 scale baja bugs and the Tamiya tamtechs. Overall they were dog slow but with advancement in mini running gear, a mamba brushless would make it fly.

Thanks for the info. This isn't the HOR kit. I'll have to decide what to do with it. I may trade it off.

In stock form they sucked. They use the same sized futaba radio gear as the vintage 1/24 scale tamtech cars. with the advent of all these mini cars, the radio technology has increased dramatically. With some quality radio gear and a 280 sized brushless motor system will be dialed in. This bike is one of the reasons I made this 1:1 replica

I didn't realize they ever discontinued it
Seems like since '94 or so every time I'm on ebay they're all over the place. I found a HOR a couple months back nib with a battery, bearing set, and RS-M unit hiding inside the box for $100, couldn't pass that up. Pretty sure they didn't know those parts were extras. I am thinking I may build it up with a brushless and go pop some wheelies

I wish they would have rere'd the original, it was so much better than the HOR. I had a blast with mine, had the BB motor, light flywheel, bearings, oil shock and forks, and steel pinions...it was awesome. Slow, but awesome

In some markets (France...) the kits included the electronics right in the box, IIRC.
