question on dirt hawg tires on a B2 wheel

Hey fellas,

I picked up some dirt hawgs for a B2 I recently picked up. So B2 wheels are supposed to be 2.2" correct? These tires look to be slightly too big for these rims, has anyone else ever seen this?

also the foam looks way to big, especially for the fronts. I'm an old school guy, never used these super soft foam filled tires, do I need to trim these foams, or just jam them in? I'm concerned it will be a PITA to try and stuff the foam in, since the tires seem loose on the wheels and try and get them nice and centered on the wheels.

any info, please lemme know!

B2 wheels should be 2.2.

I have my white B2 Proline wheels in storage, I switched them out to narrow RPM's for a scale project.

I'm not sure how they fit on the stock fronts, but I know they fit great on the slightly wider Proline wheels if you can find them. They fit perfect on my modified RPM Revolver crawler wheels. The (narrow) RPM's were narrowed about 1/8-1/4 inch.

As far as the foam inserts go, I went in the opposite direction and stuffed the (extras) REAR foams in the front to stiffen up the sidewalls.

They're awsome looking tires, but are a really soft compound.

I have dirt hawgs on my standard white B2/B3 2.2 wheels (3/16" axle). They fit pretty well; just use plenty of glue :D .

Robert

didn't the sport version of the b2 come with the 2.175 rear rims and 2.1 fronts? maybe you have those rims instead of the actual 2.2's from the team version.

The sport did have the slightly smaller rims but i thought they were three piece design. I know my B3 sport had three piece rims that were 2.175 rear and 2.1 front.

Well, I don't know much about B2's, the wheels are one piece fluorescent yellow, the shocks are hard anodized, and it has ball bearings and universal joints. I think it has turnbuckles, but I'm not sitting near it to check.

Would a sport have those parts?

yeah, i see they are quite a soft compound, I was hoping they would be a little harder compound to run on the street/concrete a bit as well.

thanks for the help so far, I see if i can take a pic so you can see the slop.

You don't have a Sport B2, you have a Team B2! Someone may have put older RC10 Team Car wheels on it, or you have a set of 2.2 truck dirt hawgs. Don't worry about the foam insert, Just stuff it in the tire.

OK, I took some more measurements and it looks like the front wheels are closer to 2.15", so the dirt hawgs are slightly too big. The rears are more like 2.2", seem to fit better. I picked up some B4 wide front wheels, which measure 2.2", so it looks like I am good to go with the hawgs and the B4 fronts, B2 rears. Just a side note, on the B4 fronts, it looks like the axle needs to be slightly longer, unless i didn't press the bearings completely into the wheels, if you tighten the nut all the way, it will rub the wheel and bearing. Since it's just a basher per se, i'll just keep an eye on the nut, and just tighten to take out the slack.

not knowing the history of this car, I guess someone may have swapped the wheels at some point. The tires appear to be the factory ones, the flat stubbie rears, and the fronts are proline 3 rib, I don't recall the number, so it looks untouched, but it's possible.

what kind of car are you using these on? if it's an old rc10, and you have the steering knuckles for the aluminum axles, pick up a pair of the wide gt front axles. they're 4mm wider, and make up for the offset difference in the wheels.

nah, it's a b2 i picked up on ebay for a song.....needed a couple a screws and tires, and she should clean up nice! Just wanted to run something that will be a nice asphalt/grass/dirt kind of tire for running around the yard/street.

thanks for the info on the axles though, i'll keep that mind. just figured I'd ask around since it looks like alot of guys run the b2/b3 wheels to change to the modern sizes.....
