Yokomo YZ10 Dogfighter Question

Ok so its not an Associated, but it almost is Anyway, I have a YZ10 Works '93 that is heavily modded, but I'm missing the undertray

I'd really like a tray so i can run this car about gently with my RC10 Runners. Does anyone have one/know of one or know what else would fit? I've seen parma re-pros on eBay or Fastrax Protech II YZ10 undertrays, but would want something that mates up with the Yok shell on the car.

awesome car mate! Maybe you could make a custom one with a sheet of lexan or stick a Teflon sheet on the underside of the chassis, it's very efficient though a bit more pricy than lexan...

I'm just wondering if a tray off something else would be close enough to work - an undertray is not the most complex of pieces of engineering!

That is one awesome looking buggy. All that lovely carbon is enough to make a Nun moist. On my Xray I made a chassis protector out of a piece of thin Fiberglass. I then put some Supervisor (two faced) tape to hold it to the chassis. It works like a charm and protect the chassis from the scrapes of street use.

I used to make my own shields when I was racing my ultima as a buggy. It's really pretty simple.
1st you trace the outer shape of the body and and chassis on chalk paper, and put them on top of eachother so they're properly aligned.
Use a black marker and a ruler to draw straight lines on a lexan sheet or PET sheet. Draw them a little inward where they should meet up with the body.
Then, draw a set of straight lines paralel to the first lines; about 15 to 20 mm outward ( only where the tray is meeting the body again. where the innner lines meet, draw a V-shape to the outer lines (perpendicular to the inner and outer lines. Put a ruler on the inner line and keep it pressed down while using another ruler to fold the side tab up.
After completing folding up the tabs, run duct tape around the upstanding tabs for strength. Finish it off with the soft velcro tape on the outside of the tray , and put a few dabs of the stiff velcro on the inside of the body.

I used to do this with PVC as it was all i had. It would last only one race day, because the pvc was too britle. But poly carbonate (lexan) or PET should hold a lot better.

vaccuum modling of a tray should be super simple too, but you'ld need to find some one willing to let you use his equipment for just a single sheet. You could try some technical schools...
