I'm still trying to decide what car(s) to run in Silvercan this Sunday. Only have 2 heats and a main so probably only going to run 2 of the cars, alternate during the heat and choose which one I feel like after. Leaning towards the Ultima and the JRX-Pro. Might bring the Scorpion for a buddy to run.

Well, I spent another week mostly in a hotel, and the USPS and US Customs have delayed my builds another week, so time to dig out a build for the weekend. It is supposed to rain through Saturday night, so great time to build. I thought about the potentials the whole trip home today, and decided that this weekend's built will be a Traxxas Fiero GTP. I have collected quite a bit of NIB parts, and have a couple of other parts cars available for electronics and such, but as a base, this is where I start. I think this will be a fun couple of days.

What sort of motor is run in silvercan? Is it something like 27 turn brushed stock motor or 17.5T brushless?

Got a bit done on the Fiero this evening. No major issues so far. Slap on the MSC in the morning, and this thing will be in the paint shop in no time.

Silvercan for our races are sealed endbell brushed motors 21t or higher. Most run Core RC Core21 or Tamiya Sport Tuned motors. We originally were doing Torque Tuned but the track's jumps were a bit too big for that.

Finished my DIY bumper....thanks to everybody who chimed in on my last post....score and snap method won the day....followed up with dremel, hand sand, vice/heat gun for a 35deg. kick up. Came out better than I thought....but think it might be time to invest in a mini band saw for the shop.

Woke up and finished the Fiero mechanically. I have to be in the mood to paint, and I ain't feeling it today. The TC4 from last weekend needs paint also, so maybe I will wait until I have three cars that need paint, and just do them all at once.

With the Fiero at a stopping point, and the rain pouring, I started into the next build. This is only my second motorcycle, and they definitely make for interesting builds. When you screw up building a car; fine, go fix it. When you screw up on a bike; take the whole thing apart, fix it, and then put the whole thing back together again.

I haven't gotten in a good RC hunt roadtrip in some time, so headed a couple hours away this morning. The STs were the original deal, and then the Optima became an unexpected side deal.

I'm a sucker for a nice Turbo Optima. Great find!

Ran at the BBQ Blast today at RC Madness. Great day of racing and eating and more racing. Didn't do as well as I liked with my B6.4 but did have a great time in Silvercan despite that it had less of a turn out then I'd have liked, there was only 3 of us. Despite the Ultima having some electrical issues it still managed to win the first heat as the other 2 cars experienced some issues as well. I switched over to my JRX Pro and boy was it fun. During the 2nd heat it was pushing pretty badly but still managed to wrestle it and get TQ. I switched to front tires I had got for the Ultima before it failed and that fixed the pushing issue, maybe a bit too much. (cactus fusion slims are pretty great for lower bite turf!) the car now had a generous amount of oversteer making it very fun to drive. The main was pretty hilarious as it was only 2 of us and the marshals started to get creative with marshaling to keep it interesting. Overall the JRX Pro held up well although i did lose the front bumper somewhere, but not a huge loss as it looks better without it anyway.

Wish I had track pics and video but oh well here's a pic after I returned it home. Also finally got to test the 870C on the indoor carpet. I have to say this thing handles way better than I expected. The turn in is amazing, no traction rolling and my printed adapters seemed to have held up to 2 battery packs of abuse fine. I did derail the front belt on my first pack but the design made it easy to fix and now know that I need a bit more tension.

All in all a fun day!

That's awesome that you got it worked out!! It is amazing how some small obstacle can frustrate us sometimes to just stop working on a project, and just pack it away ............. for years!

The *fun* with this TB-02 continues........

I spent more time putting it back together, and came to the driveshafts. Up front was dog unis, and I needed to find some dogbones for the rear. This is where the weird kicks in.... apparently, the TB-02 chassis uses a different length bone to many other Tamiyas - at 42mm, it is shared with only the XV-01, and the TT-02S. So, my spares on hand (from TA-05, TL-01, etc.) just don't work out, and they're not the easiest (i.e. cheapest) thing to find online.

Then I looked in the parts box that came with the car, and there's a pair of uni driveshafts that should work.... except they don't. For some reason, the axle length is different front-to-rear on this car.... and the 42mm unis I had installed on the front are wrong, and better suited to the rear! Except that this means I had to swap over the axles on the unis..... so now I have 42mm unis in the rear, and on the front, one 48mm uni, and one 46mm uni.

This car just keeps on giving! The outer hinge pins were wrong on the rear (rubbing on the inside of the wheel), so I went looking for replacements, according to the manual. Except..... the car isn't quite like the manual says it should be.... at which time, I realised that the car has had the Lightweight Reversible Suspension Set upgrade installed (see here: https://www.tamiyaclub.com/trades_model.asp?cid=122684&id=52876). I guess this explains why nothing seems to match properly on this car - and why following the manual for the turnbuckle lengths gave me such a mess!!!

Oh well.... will fix the final driveshaft on the other side of the rear tonight, and then I should be able to button it up with wheels.... and then I can look at the shocks. Wish me luck!
