I did mention primarily, but it's also possible that the one with the Yok endbell was swapped. The can could match the air supply ones.

I read primarily and was providing examples of both Yokomo and Air Supply Wimpy motors. The left 2 motors are both Yokomo and the right 2 are both Air Supply. The quality of the group these motors came in makes me doubt that any endbell swaps occurred. Many Air Supply cans are Yokomo cans without the Yokomo stamp (early Yokomo cans had no stamp either).

What exactly is a "tear down"? I can tell from the context that it basically means the same motor, but do they buy them plain and just slap their label on them, or is there more to it?

Teardown motors were done from motor companies for years. Trinity used Kyosho for a bit over a year then had there own motor cans and endbells made and manufactured
And back then a bunch of motor companies would buy in bulk cans, endbells, armatures and put there own built armatures and company brand decals on them cans making there own motor builds.

Swapping endbells could make a motor no longer legal, for competition use.
I don´t think a motorbuilder would sell a Yokomo based motor with an Air Supply endbell. Prototype motors are a different story.

Yokomo might be to read at the endbell or can, but these and most other teardowns were made by Sagami.

Kyosho is one of the exceptions.
Ernie Provetti wanted to use the Kyyosho teardowns. He and Joel Johnson went to the 1984 Japan Nationals were Joel won with his Delta car. After that Ernie was able to receive his first batch of Kyosho tear downs, which he was not succesful before. Later the teardowns were not made for Trinity, he bought the company which made the teardowns. This company was renamed as EPIC later.

Not correct, Trinity made motors before Kyosho released their first motors. In the beginning it was Igarashi as for everybody, then Yokomo/Sagami for a limited timeframe.

What is a teardown. In the very early times it was just Igarashi production motors which had to be torn down, to rework and rewind. This might have been the start for the term 'teardown'.
Later the basic motorparts were available to motor builders as a unit. This is can, endbell and armature blank (no windings) what finally is meant as teardown.

Who made the unwound rotor armatures? It seems like 90% or more of motors started with the same armature core. The ceramic shaft Race Prep armatures were an interesting change.

You mean the armature blank.
Well, maybe 99.9% of all armature blanks made have one thing in common. The steel shaft. But that´s it.
Kyosho and I think also some AYK armatures got inclined slots where most other armatures got straight slots.
Diameter and length of the iron sheet core differed, same for the shape of the core, the diameter of the commutator etc.
So not the same armature blanks for all motors.

Yes the ceramic shaft could make a difference. But it was prone to break so the good idea didn´t last that long.

So back to the original question, does anyone know if Gonzo/Wimpy labeled made any green motors, or is it a mislabeled Green Machine 2? Oddly enough, I ran across a GM2 digging thru some motors yesterday. It would clean up pretty nice if the previous owner had put their capacitors on the other side.. .

There are lots of brands that used Trinity stock motors, or at least the cans and endbells. That specific green motor, the label looks to me like a computer printer might have made it, so possibly not an original Wimpy label. The white edge around the red letters doesn't look like an original label to me.

Adds up. I still dig it, and it rips! I still have an original Wimpy from the handout race circa 1990. I wish I'd have paid more attention to the rep on site. A couple more stockers on my list to scratch off and I'll have every stock motor I ever raced with.

As someone who has been doing brush motors for a very long time. To the best of my knowledge, No Gonzo had never put out a Green Trinity can teardown. There lines mainly were AirSupply endbells and a few were later yokomo…black mortor cans also with there part numbers…I believe also yokomo cans. I do recall one of there stock they made two were in silver motor can.
