Re: MR ED 's ultima hop-ups
A couple corrections on the wing mount to make it easier to adjust, beautificated bumper, detailed and reinforced wheels with off-set correction for the front: ✔ I'd like to add a custom steering set up still, and then it's ready for a full prototype print.

Re: MR ED 's ultima hop-ups
Beautiful design and that bumper is the icing on the cake. So much customization; it's no longer an Ultima, it's better, it's an ED.
Really nice work. I think you've captured what many of us like to see in an off-road buggy.
Perhaps Kyosho should buy the rights from you to mass produce the car for their global market -- I'd buy one.
Can't wait to see a physical prototype.

As long as I get the credits and they keep my logo on... I'd give them the model for free.

Re: MR ED 's ultima hop-ups
That looks fantastic Mr. Ed.
I haven't had an Ultima in my hands for decades, will the stock chassis accommodate longitudinal battery placement?

Re: MR ED 's ultima hop-ups
Yes it will. It was never designed for it, but with some effort it can be done.
And the effort has become way smaller with the up-come of shorty and super-shorty packs of course.
(The modern esc 's and receiver sizes do help of course... hard to believe almost we managed to get those huge things in there bitd)

Re: MR ED 's ultima hop-ups
Still trying to improve. Having had both prototype cages for awhile now I was capable of judging each ones strong and weak points apart from the esthetic side. As a result I hacked up the latest prototype. Here is how it stands.
and here's a pic of the first prototype at the test/race...

Action pic from the vintage euromasters 2019 in Sittard, Netherlands.
I drove both versions but only got this picture of the second day. The trailing arm setup worked far better for me on this carpet track and thus the primary car was put aside after the qualifier run on the first day: in favour of what was initially the back up car- Hcp22

I think appearance is everything, therefor I think the one with the lower roof is nicer.

Re: MR ED 's ultima hop-ups
I agree with Hcp22, I think he meant "appearance", for the sleeker, more angled roofline, but also because a buggy with a rollcage looks weird without a driver doll.
Case in point; I should probably heed my own advice:

I fully agree, you have to have a driver dollCoelacanth wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2019 10:43 am I agree with Hcp22, I think he meant "appearance", for the sleeker, more angled roofline, but also because a buggy with a rollcage looks weird without a driver doll.

Re: MR ED 's ultima hop-ups
I have to get back into this project and send you a quote Lars... I know and I haven't forgotten.
But I have too many other things on my mind at the moment to find the required motivation.

Some pictures of the follow up project; mid-motor conversion.
First design prototype printed: with cage body on c-channel chassis.
Final design prototype for ultima pro style chassis: print ordered.
I'm gradually adding the parts on a shapeways shop
