Think I've fooled around with this project long enough so I've got off my arse and I'm going to finish it up. I now have period correct servos and motor for this car just need to install them. I'm hoping I can have it done by the weekend. One of these days I'll find a vintage battery and cover to top it off.


This is not the final product. I've got to finish cleaning up the wind screen and polishing out the body to remove overspray. I've just put it on to see what it will look like. The body is an original Associated TOJ dated 1978.


I'll probably add panel lines from the outside even though the original car didn't have them. I'm trying to keep it looking close to the original although the decals will be different.


I'll be repainting the wing again as I didn't have the correct size decals on the first try. I had to do a lot of work to the wooden wing as it had a lot of moisture damage.

Thanks guys! It's been hard work but really fun at the same time. Hopefully I can get my other 12's finished up too. I'm ready to move on to the buggies!

Thanks durb! I wish I could copy the original stickers and then it would be perfect.

You could make the stickers yourself if you wanted. There is clear vinyl on the market that can print on your ink jet printer. It looks awesome. I think the brand name is pollio or something. I'll see if I can find you the info.

Also if you look on that website they have a super thin clear adhesive backed paper you can put on top to that get that factory shine.

For making stickers, would be a colour laser better than the inkjet printer? I saw at that papilio there are different film versions for colour lasers, which one would be the best? I have no clue on such things but actually wanted buying a colour laser printer since some time.

I've made my own stickers with my inkjet printer and those clear sticker sheets. One thing to look out for though is that even once they're dry they can smudge easily, so it's best to give the stickers a coat of laquer/clear coat.

Check out this video and he explains how to use a clear cover like i was saying instead of spraying clear coat. [youtube]YKxFTirkI-8[/youtube]

he tells you exactly how to make the decals and what paper to use. The paper is rather expensive but I think it would be worth it. I improvised with what i could find locally and was disappointed with the results even though they looked ok.

my stickers/decals
because i could not locate clear vinyl i used white paper stickers with a nice clear cover. Because of this i had to put a background color on the stickers and try to match the color of the car. Going around the track it looks great. Just up close its like "oh i see what you did". lol.
