Good call. The Porsche wheels are going to push that van to a whole new level of cool.

With so many VWs on the market, I am surprised that there aren't more wheel choices available.

My Beetle needs these:

I seriously can't believe no one is making custom wheels anymore, as a niche. I have an undiagnosed condition where I start with the wheels, and build a car around them, every time. I won't consider building an RC, unless the wheels are right/available.

Would love a 356, real, or RC.

I still have the stock Tamiya VW rims, they're closer to the 356 Speedster wheels, and later model VW's, with all the little holes for ventilation. The early pre-'68 VW's had ventilation slots, usually just five large ones slightly hidden, between the face and hoop.
Rear wheel shows them well.


It's for that reason I never used these Tamiya stock rims, they aren't right for scale, early VW.

Let me know if you're interested in them, I have no attachment to them.

Thinking I'll run these HPI tires and wheels with this Tamiya M-08.





These MX60 slicks are the only tires that fit these HPI 911 Fuchs, this will look good on the shelf, but would be too slow because of how small the diameter is.




The magnetic body mounts should be here soon. Need to get the LED lights ready too.

Bought a VW Dual Cab body a while back and got it cut out. This one has a wheelbase of 256mm, or standard RC Touring size.


Going to paint it with Tamiya PS-55 flat clear primer, and then use automotive color matched L31 Dove Blue, for as close of a match to the real thing as possible.


L31 Dove Blue in a spray can should be here this week, hopefully. Might try to find a different chassis for this body at some point.

Got the Dual Cab body in PS-55 primer, and the L31 Dove Blue paint ready to go.


The decals are Herbie The Love Bug themed, for some reason.


Maybe they realized the roof, and front window pillars aren't accurate to scale and look cartoonish, and decided to slap some goofy Herbie stickers on there to match.


No door handles included.


Windows masked and ready to paint L31.


Need to decide if the front emblem is chrome, or white, and then paint the handles chrome. Will have to decant the chrome spray with a straw and brush it on.

Was thinking about building a Drift Bus, or Dual Cab after seeing this:

Team Associated's new DC10 Drift


RC10 DS - Touring or VTA 261mm wheelbase.


I wanted to put that Dual Cab body on a drift car, but now the RC10DS looks like it would have more spots to drive it where I'm at.

Tested The Dead Pool chassis with this DC body.






The RC10DS has lower shock towers, so this DC body should fit the DS really well. Going to have to wait a bit, but really looking forward to the DS.

This VW Dual Cab body will not fit on anything, and it wasn't cheap trying to get it to fit. Turns out it's 190mm width body - who needs that and for what?? I still can't figure out what chassis is 190mm, everything I have is 200mm.

The new RC10 DS is way too wide.




The most narrow chassis and wheel combo I have, the Kyosho Fazer MK2, can't fit over the wheels without rubbing.

190mm is 1/10 touring car regulation max width so the body was made to fit one of the 190mm chassis'... some cool reading from the library if you're in the mood, RCCA Jan 1997 pg. 106:

I got sidetracked though on the Tamiya M-02 Beetle article, on pg. 38/78:


That's the Parma '63 Surf Delivery Van body that I still have, that a friend painted as a 21 Window to match my real Bus in 2000 or so; this body sat on my CE for more than two decades. The article says it is an HPI body, sure could be, hard to remember exactly after having bought it 25 years ago.




Crazy to see a '97 magazine article with that body in it. I never read these magazines back then, I went to the shop by our house, and they had what they had, including my CE and GT, also bought my Tamiya Frog in '85 from there too.



I just need to figure out an inexpensive 190mm chassis for the DC body. I'm painting that DC body right now, it's drying as I type this.


Had to paint the bumpers and emblem on the inside, PS-55 Clear primer over it all.


We'll see how well the X-11 door handles turn out.




Not a fan of having to brush paint any of this inside.



Need to let this dry a bit longer before removing the overspray film and window masks.

With the camera flash it looks more gray.




Weird discoloration, brownish color on the front doors and bed.




This is the best VW DC body you can buy, but it's not as great as the Tamiya Bus body. Will figure out what to do with this now that it's done.

This color looks the closest to the real VW L31 Dove Blue, in the sun light.

Sometimes I wonder if shop owners see it as they're personal toy room... they carry what they like and are just allowing you to buy it... like Kicking Wing from Joe Dirt.

So many cool cars. TT02 gets the OG nod. Yokomo RS for a mainstream brand belt driver. Associated Apex2 because Associated. Integy/3Racing Cero for being the cheapest... dunno if the wheelbases are right on any of 'em though.

I have the Apex2, which is listed on that body chart as 190mm wide, I tried it with HPI 26mm wide wheels front and back, and it was still too wide. Maybe I'll see if the Hoonitruck wheels that came with the Apex2, will clear the wheel wells, but they don't look as good as the HPI.




Jammed over the wheels, it almost looks good, but it's pushing the wells out at least a 1/2" on each side.


The TT-02 chassis kit is about $100, might explore that at some point.

Oh yeah... you've got a Hoonitruck... duh

Indeed, the width/offset of the 31mm wheels will put all the touring cars over 190mm.

Has a little bit of a gasser stance until you stretch the sides to get it down, but nice looking once you do just begging for a set of 26mm Fuchs
