Regarding the diffs with barely any grease inside. Are there any pros or cons with using diff fluid instead of adding grease, or is just adding grease the ideal way to go? I haven't had any time for mine, nor any of the others.

They are not oring sealed for using fluid, it will leak out quickly.

I hope I don't talk myself into keeping this thing... I wonder if TC3 or Schumacher Cat wheels fit on it...

I used marine grease after reading about some other guy who used it, and I had some on the shelf already. Seems nice and smooth.

I think WM created a shortage of these things. They are over $140 there now, and the cheapest I can find on Amazon is $112.
Edit, nevermind. Can get them for $73 through a different link. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Wltoys-XKS-144001-RC-Car-60km-h-High-Speed-1-14-2-4GHz-RC-Buggy-4WD-Racing-Off-Road-Drift-Car-RTR/675502113?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=101033462&&adid=22222222227372311210&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=472472994145&wl4=aud-1321539104537:pla-978392993403&wl5=9008472&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=254851738&wl11=online&wl12=675502113&veh=sem&gclid=CjwKCAiAm7OMBhAQEiwArvGi3GEGBnck9Zmu3SsndCdZvHXmjiJQ2J7BDZTKkQGh6yA5I08vn46CvRoC9tYQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Re: WLToys 144001 at Walmart for $37! (back on sale!)
I opened up the diffs on mine today.
I found that the spider gears already had shims installed, like the diffs in the 124019. I tried some different thickness ones but settled on the ones included.
I did shim the endplay up on the planetary gears. They are common 5mm ID shims. The front needed both sides shimmed but the rear only needed one side.
Then I packed them both with Lucas blue marine grease. Now they are tight but smooth.
While I had the wheels off, I put aluminum hexes on. I used these from Amazon.

I also used Traxxas 4mm ID shims to remove any play.
I'll probably come back and experiment with the thicker (2.5 vs 1.8 ) bearings and less shims to find what fits the best.

Finally ran this yesterday at my cousin's. We were shocked by how well it ran!
Pure ripper and soaked up the bumps like crazy after a couple of adjustments! Wish I'd bought more.

I was blown away by how it ran....perfect power to weight ratio....that 550 bag motor had the perfect torque curve!

Was scrolling thru the boxes of motors. I'm wondering how perfect of a torque curve a 240ST or 22x1 Outlaw stock Mega motor will have.

If it's overkill, then I know I'm going in the right direction.
Yeah, just brought this thread back.
