I had been out of the hobby from roughly 1993 to 2008, this was one of the 1st places I found for some reason. Since then, vintage has bankrupted me, ruined my marriage, destroyed my career, and I live in a box under a viaduct with my collection of RC10's. And wouldn't change a thing, thanks RC10 talk

You live under a viaduct? How lucky....

Seems like just yesterday that Scr8p and a few of his buddies got this place going. Damn kids grow up so fast these days!

Now I'm interested. So who besides scr8p started RC10Talk? Was Lowgear also involved at the very start? How did it start? Is there a back story/history posted anywhere on the site? I've only been around for 6.5 years so I'm basically still fresh meat around here it seems

I can't remember for sure if the backstory has ever been posted on here before but there is the 'About us' page that gives the gist of it:
https://www.rc10talk.com/aboutus
Yes, I've been involved since the very start. If you view the member list I was one of the first members to create an account upon the boards creation:
https://www.rc10talk.com/memberlist.php
The origin story begins with ClodTalk which began in something like 1999 but didn't get its own domain name until 2002. Scr8p and myself among others were all members of ClodTalk for years while it was being owned/run by Bill Krueger who still pops up on here from time to time. A small group of members on there lead primarily by scr8p wanted to begin discussing the various RC10 models in depth. They kept bugging Bill to create a new section to do just that. He did them one better by creating an entirely new forum to do it on named RC10Talk! Nothing was ever meant to come of it beyond a place for a few people to hold discussions outside the realm of R/C monster trucks. It ended up being the right place at the right time as there were no other forums like it which caused it to quickly catch on. Over the many years since then, it's snowballed into what it is today!

I had signed up on Clodtalk somewhere in 2004. Mainly for Clod stuff, but there were a dozen or so guys that consistently discussed the older Associated buggy and truck, along with the lesser manufacturers

. Bill received enough pressure to build this board for us in '06. He put Hoopty and Scott (MelvinsArmy) on as admins. About a year later, Shodog and I were added as admins as the board started to grow.

Interesting to know the history finally. So UltraRC links to right here, pretty cool. I bet the name does pigeonhole a bit. How does this size of this place compare to Tamiyaclub.com? Just curious as I have no clue how all this works, so someone owns this domain and then presumably he makes money from ad revenue like everything else? Do moderators make money on this like YouTube chat? Figure this is a "safe" place to ask my clueless question.
