Hi I’m refurbing a Meteor now. How much oil and what type have you found works best please, having just tried testing these and oil leaking everywhere I’d presumed they weren’t supposed to be oil filled? I have some light machine oil and PTFE tape to hand but no “proper” shock oil!

650cst shock oil seems to work - its also thick enough to stay in the shock with the crappy plumbers tape seal.

I think the modified meteor article from june 1990 also reccomends some shock oil (prob 30wt motorbike oil).

I went with 350cst pure silicone lubricant in the end, with some PTFE tape around the thread it’s sealed fine 🙂 …for now!
