Good news, the DS is now painted. :D

After long hesitations, between the Penske Sunoco livery and the infamous Goodies Speed Shop "Gulf" Camaro, I've changed my mind.

After all, this a Rc10 "Graphite" DS so I've decided to make an interpretation of the original 1989 Graphite boxart.

Let me know what you think about it.

The crappy DS is back for some modifications. The polished bottom load shocks are leacking constantly from the cap, so i decided to install "team" hard coated shocks. And also, I decided to go back to brushed for a more "vintage" feeling.

The motor is a Trinity Speed Gem Amber 17x2 (Year ?)

I was just commenting on this car in your other DS thread.

I love this car man!

Perhaps some plumbers tape around the thread area may help stop the leaks on the polished shocks.

However, those team shocks look proper and perfect on it.

Keep us posted on the difference between the brushed vs brushless.

Since this thread has been brought back to the spotlight, and rightfully so I might add, can you elaborate on how you cleaned the turnbuckles? I'm curious how you went from shiny to black with just heating. Thanks!

First, I use a steel brush to remove the rust (or a sand blaster when necessary), but this make them partly shiny.

Image

Then I heat the part with a blowtorch or a bunsen burner until it became black, the extremity of the part can begin to turn red, but I don't heat the part too much.

Image

Then immediately plunge the part in oil, the cooling have to be as quick as possible, if you let it cool slowly, it will soften the steel.

Image

Dry the part in a towel, the black color is durable, you can scrub it without any problem.

Wow. Thanks! That is a top notch response, if ever I have seen one. I'm going to give this a try now. Thanks again!
