friday practice, i'm not sure when it starts. i'm local and head over after work and run until dark.

the race is well organized by erich, the original poster in this thread.

we get there early saturday, 8am ish. unpack your stuff, find a spot to pit and go check in. it will all be spelled out for you.
it's and easy race to attend. saturday can be a long day especially if you stay and watch the dirt oval race under the lights.

OK thanks. So the track is outdoors? The numerous youtube videos of previous events show an indoor track so I assume the venue is being changed to an outdoor one? Is reverse allowed in the classic class? Thanks again.

last year it was changed up to an outdoor, period correct track. slightly looser then indoor with milder jumps, more like the tracks we ran on back in the day.

reverse is not allowed at all in organized rc racing. if you have reverse you just don't use it.

last year i used double dees i think.
Don't forget Flipouts and IFMAR pins. I think I used Flipouts last year, and they were great.
2WD front?
Any type of ribbed 2wd front tire should work fine. My personal favorite is Pro-Line M3 4-rib for the front. I may end up switching to JConcepts Groovy (same aggressive tread), though, since JC inserts are way better.

So I have to ask with the re-release rc10 announced yesterday, how will it fit into the classes planned in September?

Classic class if you build it stock. 2wd if it deviates from that.

Oh, ok. A looser track is great news especially for vintage running as I'm not all that fond of the newer compact/hard dirt surfaces they call "offroad" these days. Since the race is now outdoors and therefore weather-dependent, would it just be cancelled/rescheduled in the event of bad weather? I use the old style stick radios in all of my models so would you recommend that I upgrade to a modern 2.4 ghz radio for competition?

A stock re-re RC10 is on par with a "non-pro/entry level" plastic-chassis'd Hornet, Frog or Wild One? Doesn't seem like it would be a fair fight.

It wasn't in the summer of 1984 in Vineland NJ either.

For the record, the tamiya cars are hopped up.

the entry level cars can change tires and such the rc10 cannot. stock rc10 tires are pretty darn hard so it does even up the playing field a bit.

i think a boomerang or baja king won the class last year, rolling on double dees.

As I understand the rules and have been told by Erich:
Cars that are from -84 or earlier can run modern tires except for the RC10. Periodic ho-ups and alternations are aloud on those cars to. Cars mad after -84 has to be stock and on original rubber.

I hope this is the right interpretation of the rules for Classic?

from what i have seen in the classics class, all of the tamiya "plastic fantastic" cars are modded or atleast running modern wheels and rubber.

the few rc10's and jrx2's that ran in classics and not in 2wd had stock rubber. now stock rubber between the jrx2 and rc10 are vastly different.
jrx2's came with "naturals" which are like modern tires, whereas the rc10 had those hard lugs on there.

at the end of the day it's about having fun. bring what ya got and race!

If I make the trip to CT Sunday I might have to dust off my display RC-10 for some racing. I imagine the RC-10s will be running wild. At least I hope they will.
