DennisM wrote:That paint job embraces my idea of a TopCat. Long slim front - low and fast.
The partitions at the back takes away the "wide" from the rear end, which in my opinion is a good thing.
In regards to what Dennis says, how ultra sleek would a top at look with a Cougar2 shell ? 8)

Oh, and uh, nice paint Dan. Can you say mirrored chassis ? :D

Quick pic!

Will take some proper pictures in the daylight which will hopefully show the colours & detail better, I hate this time of the year.. its only at the weekend that I get the chance to see my house in the daylight! :|

Still got a few little bits/issues to resolve on this TopCat before I can say that it is 'finished' - despite the same oil (& pistons) in both front & rear shocks (30wt), the front is really soft & springy - whilst the rear is way over damped! - There is also still a slight leak from each shock cap, which i'll have to look into (new Diaphrams perhaps?) The black allen head screws in the front wheels need replacing for original spec bright BZP (silver) screws - & I need to dissmantle the L/H front hub as there is a knocking (I think the 'pimples' on the back of the plastic axle need shaving down a bit)

I like the paint Dan, much better than I can do :)

The front damping on Topcats is a pain, a bit like Predators used to be. You used to have to use a much thicker oil on a laydown suspension, than a normal setup.

As for the caps, I always give the cap threads a coat of AE green slime (even on my new buggies) just for this issue.

I dissagree - I love the paint job on the Cougar in your avatar 8)

Yes i'm going to try perhaps 40-45 wt in the front & perhaps 20wt in the rear? Its all academic as the car is unlikely to ever run - but I do like my shelfers to 'feel' right when you do the obligitory suspension 'push' when admiring a model  I have actually smeared green slime around the lip of the diaphrams... but will try it on the threads also when I do the oil :D

The decals/stickers that I brought were a little dissapointing - firstly they are almost transparent so when applied to the dark areas of the bodyshell the colours of the decals are lost (but this also seems to be the case when you look closely on Luke's image of Phil Davies' car with the side decals) Also it would appear that being so old, the decals were very difficult to peel off from their backing paper & in some cases the paper came away with the sticker - which is most evident on the large Schumacher decal on the R/H side - I managed to get rid of most of the paper (rubbed with thumb with decal submerged in soapy warm water) but there is still some white residue :|

It's amazing how much better they do look in the sunlight. The blue looks a completely different shade, but in a good way :)

Paul.
