The motor is questionable! ... The wire diameter is oversized and its not like you can't buy wire that is under the limit. If you buy wire that is exact sized it has tolerances and the rules state zero tolerances. So like all the other companies, you have to use the next size wire down. The motor is noticably faster than any other un-modded motor on the track.
Of course unless you push as hard as you can on a set of calipers to test the wire size... If you squeeze hard enough, you will achieve legality in the wire eventually.
I have decided against a Trinity motor and instead have opted for a Reedy 17.5. I'll make it work.

I ran the car today at SRS but before I talk about that, Maifield was out there testing something along with BT, Cochran and Nuemandahl and Jason Rouna was also there for the tire support... I'll try to get the full scoop later, but my guess is it was a new car, I got kinda close to it and I don't think it was a B4.2. Just thought I would throw that out there for ya to squirm about,

Who is BT and what do you think they were testing? 2WD,4WD?

JHarris wrote:Reg, he's your hero and you didn't even spell his name right! It's Brent Thielke. He's the team manager for AE.
I am so enamored by his spectacular vernacular in a YouTube video production in Mike Reedy's memory where he talked about "remote controlled" cars; I have a hard time recalling the I before E vowel rules.
Funny, the first time I met him was at AE getting a tour with my boss. He was introduced to me as the Team Manager. I said "You look so young! Who are you?" He looked embarrassed and was not impressed, as was I! Rick and Tracy Howart laughed! I had never heard of him before that day! He seemed an ok guy to me though!
To know Thielke (Pronounced Tell-key) is to love him. As i have told Reg, I can't say anything bad about him. That I know of, I have no reason.
Rick and Tracy are great! and since we are on a name spelling correction spree... its Hohwart. It was always fun ordering stuff from Orion. sometimes I would ask the team manager about something and they would be out... I would hang up, call back in a few minutes and ask for Tracy, re-ask for the stuff, and I guess they got an order in in-between the time I talked to the other person!
Oh, it was a 2wd buggy... Rumor has it its a B5... But that is just something I heard from someone else later on. Don't know for sure on that rumor.

And let the B4 selloff begin...
Back to the thread though - would love to see some action shots of that great looking car Orange..

It's been in production.for 10 years now.....it might as well be vintage. We went from the Worlds car in 94, to the B2 in mid 95, to the B3 in (late?) 96-early 97. The B3 ran 96-97 until 02 and the the B4 was released before the 03' worlds?
I remember when Maifield got his first B4 about a week before Cactus. It came in a bag without instructions. He TQ'd Mod Buggy at Cactus and I remember Easton coming over to his pit and looking at his car and telling him he has a band aid setup on it. He was like "I kicked your ass with it" ... He did win that race, first time out with the car.
If it was for sure a B5.. I'm pretty sure normal people will not have it for a while. I would bet at least not until after the worlds. the sad part if it is, I walked in a hobby shop the other day and counted 15 b4.2's on the shelf. With crazy ass rumors floating about a new car, sucks for that hobby shop!
Okay, so Cactus is over... I ran the car in 17.5 class and everytime it hit the track got repeated talks from the announcer Scotty Ernst. I wish I had gotten more practice before the race because having only raced a couple times in the past 2 years really showed the rust. The 1st day I had some mechanic errors that gave me 2 DNS to start out qualifying. The 3rd round I broke... Well, ballcup popped off. Seems to be quite an issue. I was talking to Pavidis and he seemed to remember the same issue with the car back in the day. That seems to have slipped my mind, but hey, I've forgotten more than I know. There is a lot of flex in the suspension parts up front and I found out if I pushed hard enough on the carrier I could get the ball cup to pop off. My suggestion is to find/use some ballcups that fit nice and snug and if not, stay on top of the the camber ballcups, they start to oval out and once they get too bad, they pop off quite easily. I talked to JHarris and he suggested using JConcepts ballcups so that is my next quest for the car...
So anyway, I managed to get a full qual in the 4th and final round. It wasn't blazing fast as I was just trying to complete a round with the car. And ended up qualifying 6th in the last main (E or F, not sure). I started the main fine and ended up bumping up to the next main where I had a terrible start and then a ballcup pop off which ended my quest of bumping again.
In all it was a success I think. I had people searching me out to see the car, had the announcer all over it when I was on the track and tons of attention towards it throughout the week. The car worked fabulous when It was on the track, because of the shorter arms and the extreme traction we had, I was able to run a much softer setup. Because of the gear ratio of the tranny, I could gear the car in a more traditional manner and keep the weight of the motor in a better position. Something I would have no doubt that some manufacturers may be looking at for future projects.
One other item to mention, the AE team were all using B4.2 cars... No sight of the car I saw a few weeks earlier. It was interesting though on Tuesday afternoon (I was told this, didn't actually see it) but supposedly there was a portion of the AE tent blocked off from view, but that is all I know about that.
