I have two rifles (30-06 and 8-57) and one shotgun 12ga all for hunting. And I always lock them away in safety cabinet and I always have the key with me.
How many people die in gun accidents in the US every year within the family?

The question was more rhetorical then anything else. Because I have a hard time understanding how someone can have a gun lying around in someone’s home especially if you have children. I know what I did with my father’s guns when I was a teenager when my parents weren’t at home… That was the resound I got my selves a gun-safe when I got my own children. And now days it’s a law in Sweden that you got to have gun-safe for your guns. I don’t judge any one; I only want you to think twice before bringing home a gun
This picture was taken 3 weeks ago when I got my selves a moose

But why should your question be specific to the United States? Are there not people in your country who break the law and don't have a gun safe?
And your question asked how many people die in gun accidents in the US, within a family? That's really open-ended but now you're preaching about gun safes. Your question would suggest you are talking about guns that misfire? Or maybe accidental shootings because someone is mistaken for an intruder in the house and shot?
I'm not sure what you're trying to get at with this line of posts/questions.

Maybe it's the language barrier.

In Canada it is mandatory to have your guns in a safe! All mine are in a safe but close at hand if needed!

I don’t judge anyone, but…
Isn’t it so that USA has the most liberal gun laws in the western world? I read statistics that Americans legally have 0.88 guns per person and with that are no: 1 in the world, Swedes has 0.31 per person as a comparison. (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_guns_per_capita_by_country)
And yes we probably have Swedes that break the law and don’t have gun-safes. And it would be mostly elderly persons that got there gun-license before 1970.
My point is that I want people to think twice before getting a gun and especially when you are planning to have in a draw beside your bed and have children.
And I can’t help thinking about the 16 year old American boy that shoots his mother and father in the head because they had closed down the internet connection… And guess what, he used his father’s gun that the father kept beside the bead. The father survived, the mother didn’t.

It's kinda irrelevant to compare Sweden and the US as a whole seeing all the differences in population, land mass etc. However the safety point is always an important one-

I have an HK USP 40 Compact. I am 6'2" and my hands are pretty big, but the Compact version fits very well. Not a big gun, size wise, but it has to be one of the loudest hand guns I've ever shot.
I also have a Baretta 92 FS 9mm that is a very fun gun to shoot. More accurate than the HK with less recoil. Most likely due to being heavier and smaller caliber.
For home defense, I have to say that nothing will change the attitudes of those with bad intentions more than hearing the crunch, crunch of the pump on a 12ga shotgun. No aim, just point it in the general direction and it'll get the job done.

big dogs are even better then a shotty, as far as the "warning" noise.
my great dane has a bark in him that scares the entire neighborhood although he rarely uses it unless someone is snooping around.

Here's a pic of my new S&W 357 magnum. It's a "plus" with the 7 shot canister.
