Reggie, I know I've seen reference to this process elsewhere, as I think those tire tinkerers around will still do this with modern rubber on occassion.

If I remember right, one can cut out a diagonnal-orineted section, so as to create a longer/stonger re-glued contact area and also distribute the unconformity (not create a flat spot or noticable bump in the wheel).

Do you know of any photos or how-to tips anywhere? The reason I'm asking is that I have a small pile of used 2.1 and 2.0 wheels that I think I might want to tray to section on some new 2.2 rubber just for fun. What do you think? It can't be that hard can it?

It's done just like this (ignore the pool noodle insert) although it's adding the section that I removed-

Sharp pair of straight shears, thin CA- small imperfections in your lines or cuts are taken up with the CA and the rubber stretch. I "tacked" the inner tire getting it lined up the way I wanted then glued the outside after I was happy-
