Time for another update. The transmission is back in for a second time now and the battery hold down and esc are remounted again.
Back half is finished finally. Up front I made a few changes. I moved the inner tierods forward 4mm on the steering rack. This puts the tierods at almost the same angle as the SC10 linkage. Also found out in the forward position the ball cups hit on the front bulkhead in 6 different places. After 2 hours of assemble, check clearance, dissassemble, grind and repeat I finally have full clearance. Ah the joys of homemade cars. I also added two more holes on each side to the front shock tower for the upper camber link to raise the inner side. That puts the upper link parallel to the arm. The shortest length is the same as I have been running and the longest is close to the SC10. The reason for the geometry changes is just to see what it does. All the old holes are there so I can change it back if I want. I also moved the shocks to the back of the tower and the camber links to the front. I just had to space the tower 1/8 inch forward and the rest lined right up.
I also changed the front shocks. The old ones were 1.32 bodies with 1.02 shafts. The extra body length let me run the longer rear springs on the front and still get the rideheights correct. I needed the shock bodies for my RPM 10T and I scored a nice set of v2 buggy shocks for 25$ a while back. The 1.18 rears fit real nice on the front.
That's 1 3/4 ounces of lead right in the middle as dead weight to get it up to 2110. Right now as it sits it is 60.0% rear and I can go up or down 2% depending on battery and weight placement. I'm pretty happy with that. That's about 6 ounces lighter than when it was new.
This will probably be the last major change to this truck. At this point I might look into building a second one. Different rear arms, full custom chassis etc.
Plus I'm running out of places to drill holes.
