Anytime 8)

Car looks good striped up. Agreed, not at as in your face without the white border but, some more decalage and she'll pop.

Speaking of decals...

...where's the R/C windshield tear-offs when you need 'em?!?

The sponsor decals will turn it up a bit, very true. I'm going to have to borrow another excellent idea for the decals, from @XLR8 again, sorry if I am misattributing this to the wrong person, it was mentioned a while ago.

Image

Going to try to do a composite decal scheme, with both the Kyosho Beetle, and the Baja 500 - #537 decals, as a custom matching counterpart to the boxart Sand Scorcher.

If it's this one you were thinking about,

... feel free to "borrow" the livery.

It wasn't my idea anyway.

For some reason I was thinking it was you who did the Blitzer Beetle, in the Baja 500 scheme. Sorry about that, you had the sweet Centerlines on the Sand Scorcher for certain though :D.

Well, I guess it could be. This body has bounced around a lot lately.
P1010904.JPG
The BB was converted to a Stadium Blitzer a couple months back and the BB body has landed on a custom DT-02 chassis.
P1010924.JPG
... for now anyway. :D

That was it! I thought I had read about the Holiday Buggy, or the Blitzer, very cool as that body works on all of your chassis's.

If I could figure out how to adapt the Sand Scorcher 5-star wheels to the Blitzer, I would've put the Baja 500 decals on it.

Your Blitzer looks great like that. Do you have a pic of your Blitzer 500, next to a Sand Scorcher?

Hey thanks! :D
Well, I didn't yet have a Sand Scorcher when I built the Blitzer Beetle so here it is next to my DT-02 Scorcher.

So many Beetle builds, it can get a bit confusing but I just can't get enough of them. :D

Nice! You did a great job on those bodies. Blitzer looks like the Monster Beetle next to the DT-02

I love old air cooled VW, the Bus is the one that I can't get enough of. I bought (4) Tamiya VW Bus bodies, and have been looking for a place to put the last (2).

Lunch Bus? :D

Wheelbase is just a bit too short, unfortunately.

Got the Rx for the Beetle today, going to shorten the steering servo cable, and it's ready to go.

This servo might be overkill for this model, going to need to setup the D/R to slow it down.

Bought the ebay cheapy LED kit for $14, it's less expensive if you get the one without the fake Tamiya sticker on it. This one comes with (12) LED's, and I only need (2) for the Beetle, so I'll have leftover's for other projects.
Image

Going to get another ElecHawk switch/relay for this, to turn the lights on and off with the Tx.

Got the 2014 Scorpion rear hex drivers.
Image

Curious about the offset difference from the original Beetle's friction drive, and how the new hex drive will line up with the 12mm to Tamiya 5-star adapters.
Image

I didn't buy anything for adapting the front wheels yet, need to make sure if the rears will work, first.

The only adapters I bought might take another few days to get here.

Works as intended. Will paint the washer and nut black, most likely.

Decided to call the driver done, the windows are so hazy on this model that the detail is lost a bit, and so are the mistakes thankfully.
Image

No eyes, not going to ruin this one.
Image

Added a dashboard LED.

Headlights working also.

Have the magnetic DC power connectors ordered and on the way, to make connecting the LED's faster.

The 2014 Scorpion 12mm hex adapters have a serious offset. Puts the wheels out too wide.
Image

It's possible to not use either the Beetle friction drive, or the Scorpion hex drive, and use just a pin instead, like Tamiya does.
Image

If there were a 5mm hex drive over the pin, and connected to this adapter.
Image

The offset and drive would be correct.
Image

Will need to bore the center of the hex drives a bit wider, as the Kyosho axles have a thicker diameter at the mount location.
Image

For $7, these 5mm will be here tomorrow, will drill the center out and give this a test.

Got the 12mm hex spacers and drilled one out to fit the axle.
Image

Leaves a large gap where the bearing can float out of the trailing arm.
Image

Realized that I was overthinking this, and put the original Beetle friction drive back on, offset and bearing fixed.
Image

Hex adapter fits over the round friction drive perfectly.
Image

There's even more surface area for the friction with that adapter, compared to the original Beetle rear wheels.
Image

Looks right, and works well too.
Image

Going to try Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black, on the nut and washer for the rear wheels.
