Will order some TS-13 Gloss Clear now. Glad I waited before putting the TS-80 on.

It's possible to make flat paint shiny but boy is it not the easiest, especially if there's small details you can't really polish too much. It would make for an uneven finish.

I've heard that your supposed to put the decals on, and then clear coat over them too, to get the ultimate in scale look. Have you tried that trick yet?

Fender does this with their head stock decals, to make the decals look painted on. Looking forward to trying it on the P34.

I am no paint man by any means, but I'd swear Suzuki sprayed clear over the decals on my GSXR fuel tank. There is no edge to them at all.

Thanks! I'll never do another ABS body without primer first, it helps stop the runs and the uneven look to the paint. This was the first ABS body I've done, fortunately I can just sand it and keep starting over until I get it right.

I saw a guy on the Tamiya web site took his '77 P34 out to the track, hit a wall and broke the body his first time out. There are no body replacements sold for this kit, not sure I'll ever drive this one far, or fast, so it needs to look really good on a shelf .

I've been carefully studying the best way to finish this model, and found these excellent how-to articles at Tamiyabase on how this is all supposed to be done:

I'm not going to clear over the decals, apparently you do that when the quality of your decals are poor. Tamiya decals are about as good as you can get, and don't benefit from a clear coat, unless you want them to look painted on.

I'm going to clear only the body and wing, or all the TS-15 Blue parts, and then add the decals.

Got the body free of orange peel and smoothed out to 3000 grit.


The wind is really strong today to try and spray the clear, might have to wait until tomorrow, but this project is going forward asap.

Got the clear on, going to see what polishing it does.

TS-13 Gloss Clear is great, it won't fix a bad paint job, but it puts that wet look all over it, which sometime you can get with just the paint, but this makes it even.


Went too much on the side and it dripped.


Have already polished the drip out with 3000 grit wet sponge, but now I need another can of TS-13 to finish this.


Was so close to being done. Ordering TS-13 now.

TS-13 sprayed.




Will wait a week for this to fully cure. Then learn how to polish.

Got the Coarse polish applied, it removed the orange peel and uneven surface. Might need one more Coarse polishing.




Hoping to complete the Fine and Finish steps tomorrow.

Made it to the Fine and Finish polishing stages. Should be able to complete this one, hopefully tomorrow.
