Waiting on some o rings and will see if the old shocks hold oil. If I have any success I,ll post pics. I,m wondering if there's a seal in the end cap but if there is its held in with a crimp. Probably be the same lost cause as my late Honda vt's worn shock shafts which just buggered any replacement seals. If it costs more than the couple of quid for rings it won't be worth it.
PS. I've got those 92t belts if you want any

Shock Horror! piston broke as they say.
old shocks : I think the end cap has a rubber seal under the crimped in washer, impossible to get out/replace methinks.
spares for a tamiya 't' which seem to be the currently fitted shocks, far too long and fat but servicable
Mark II top deck. a couple of bends over the edge of a table to accommodate the steering servo. I'm beginning to like soft ally (nice girl).

watchout about tamiya yellow cva... the fit is so horrible that the stress on the a-arms will be intense. Not good for 30 y.o. hard to find plastics...

Mmmm, not happy with them but don't want to replace with more wronguns. 3x3 orings arrived and might do the job on the old shocks. But seems piston displaces oil on compression and doesn't fully travel into cylinder. A bit of fine tuning with the oil level I guess. Now I know what bladders are for on newer ones....absorb displacement

Old school shocks without bladders did always contain a little air and are known as emulsion shocks , the theory is that you work the oil/air into a foamy mix before a race and the damping was designed to work with this foam not neat oil , the air bubbles compress as the piston moves up the shock allowing for the added volume of the shaft in the same way the bladder compreses in a modern shock , properly set up there are many that would argue that emulsion shocks can work just as well as bladder shocks .
The O ring is behind the crimped washer in the cap , you may be able to replace them with careful Dremel work and then re crimping with a small chisel afterward .

Good info, ta vm. Even if i got the old seals out not sure I,d find replacements or I'd mess up the end cap thread. however the 3idx3mm cs rings fit so tight in the cylinder that I might even be able to rub them down slightly. The oil and uncompressed piston adds to keeping them in place. I lose 3mm on the stroke but could adjust that with the screw on ball joint. Guess it's getting me off the complete newbie blocks.

I saw your thread re machining parts. I have some tools from a retired engineers toolbox. Look like they might be from lathe or cutting tool bits. Any point me posting pics in case of use to you

Yes please do , just back from holiday so wallet is thin this month but if your in no great hurry the there may well be something of interest or maybe I can identify them if you want to put them on eBay .

as you can see, pretty poor condition, centre drills etc. Retired engineer's obviously left in a shed for a long time. I bought the toolbox to use as a collectors case. Seems some of the bits he ground down to make his own tools. I'm thinking theyre too naff, worn, large for your purposes but......

Thanks for showing them to me but I think your right , there's not much I could use or be of any resale value , it's very similar to a hored of mine that contains broken drills ,broken end mills etc just stuff that you keep in case you need an axle shaft in hardened steel or a custom one off tool of some kind .
