the HPI tires are a really hard tire so they shouldn't balloon up too much. I've had some in the past and still might have some sitting around in a box somewhere. I could get a little traction with them but you needed really aggressive asphalt for them to grip. But since you are running in a straight line it shouldn't be an issue.
Just a thought but the traxxas XO1(?) was designed to go fast so the tires off of it might work pretty decent for you if you could adapt them to your truck....

17mm hex 4.3" tall rated for over 100mph THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Looks like I'll be converting to 17mm hex. The good news is I will get my beadlocks back for my SC10B.
I had never heard of the XO1, I have however seen the "100mph" traxxas box at Hobby shops, but I don't look too close at Traxxas products

Yeah, the LHS is a major believer for traxxas. To be honest, for a mom&pop shop anymore traxxas is the major reason for them to still be in business so it works out for them. I also had no idea of what it took to mount them but 17mm isn't too hard to convert over too.
Good luck

werent the x01 rated for like 142 mph. either way should hold up. you can also do the gorilla tape on the inside of the tires too but make sure to balance them. im liking foam myself b/c you dont stress the transmission as much but take off is a little harder.

The problem is finding foamies that are 4 inches or taller. I'm leaning on a set of 1/8 funny car tires for the rear.

Todd, it looks like I'll be turning to some Traxxas parts to make this possible

I'm not anti-traxxas by any means. Vintage traxxas that is. I've got some nice examples of TRX1, TRX3/TCP, SRT, Bullet, Eagle/blue eagle, sledgehammer, etc. Got some less nice examples too

Small update. I rebuilt the shocks and added bleeder tops. I ordered aluminum front C's, and am communicating with Gone Bananas rc tires to get a custom set of high speed foams mounted for me.

They make some good stuff nowdays too. I have a 4x4 Slash, and it has sooo many aftermarket stuff it's ridiculous. So that's one huge plus for their modern equipment, the aftermarket hop up parts availability is crazy huge. Sure some of their cars/trucks look stupid, but the sheer number of models they have ensures there's something for everyone. I never ever thought I'd buy one, especially because I hate "buying something because everyone else has one". But after my friend got a Slash 4x4, and started upgrading, I just had to get one.
What's odd, is that back when I used to race RC10's in the late 80's and very early 90's, I had never even heard of Traxxas. I thought they were a new company, until I saw forums like this a few years back. I had no idea that Traxxas had a history as long as they did.

Yep, got a traxxas platinum 4x4 slash and loved it til I drove against an sc10 4x4. The slash is worthy and for the most part takes a pretty good thrashing but doesn't compare if it were to be raced. Its like putting a rustler against an rc10t ...

Exotek direct spur mount ordered. New gearing will be 35t pinion and 42t spur.

4.5" tall solid foam tires mounted to 14mm hex Funny car wheels have been purchased. I'm real excited to see these.
I was told these are foam. I know, I'm surprised.

I cannot locate a 42 tooth 32 pitch spur gear. Really stuck here. I might have to scrap all my gears for MOD1.
On the bright side, rear tires and wheels arrived. I might pick up some stock 2.2 fronts wrapped in foam also. I like this look. Like a throwback to its roots.

With the increased diameter of the tires, did you adjust for the difference in pinion-to-spur gear ratio? You may now be able to search for a smaller pinion as you might've upsized the tires. If the new tires are the same diameter as the old ones, disregard this suggestion.mAdMan wrote:I cannot locate a 42 tooth 32 pitch spur gear. Really stuck here. I had them turned to the same size (4.30")Coelacanth wrote:With the increased diameter of the tires, did you adjust for the difference in pinion-to-spur gear ratio? Re: RC10GT2 + MAMBA MONSTER X + 2650Kv Castle 1512
Update: I've been so busy lately but I did order a custom 42t 32p spur gear. I will have to bore the hole to .475 and pilot 3 holes for the slipper delete.
Bad news...it might take up to 6 weeks to get the gears made.

I'll update more soon. That 6 weeks will give me time to spec the GT2 out with all new bearings, rebuild the transmission, and add some upgraded factory team parts. More to come.
ETA: Just IMAGINE how easy it would be to get a GT1 to 100mph with the 2.6:1 transmission. The GT2 uses a 4.09:1 and therefore is driven almost 1/2 the speed for the same gearing.....yup don't tell me. I'm not swapping it over I've come too far.
