The no felt thing is a bit of a bummer but it is what it is. I'd rather have a stealth trans and no felt than to have neither at all. I would like to say thanks to all who have made this possible. The legend continues.

Is the felt gasket even really necessary on todays style of track?

Of all things to be concerned about, the felt gasket is so very minor. I'll just punch out my own if I feel the overwhelming need for one.
I miss brushed motors in that hazy, everything seemed better when I was a kid, kind of way.

Most team drivers never used the felt gasket bitd any way, it would cause drag! Remember, they built this new world as a racer, not a replica!

I run my 10T regularly as well as race it at least a couple times a month on a clay track. My motor get more gets more dirt then my stealth and I clean and check both every 2 months. It stays pretty clean.

All this time and I've been trying to keep my old felt gasket together because I thought it was a needed part. But because I'm a stickler for details, really how hard would it be to just make one from some kind of thick rubber or foam?

Didn't someone make a foam/neoprene/whatever gasket back then? Trinity or someone? I remember a dark gray material but it could have been purple, maybe even red. It's been a while.

It may not be necessary for a racer, but I'd still rather have one on a basher.

yes, someone sold one that was red. Someone on the forum used that dense foam stuff you find in such things as kids puzzles and toys, kneeling pads, and gym equipment to cut them out.

really, with a sealed bearing, even a shielded bearing, it's not needed. otherwise, you would expect more dirt entering from the MUCH larger outdrive bearings, also much 'closer' to the dirt than the top shaft. I always wondered why they even bothered with that felt.

ETA made the super gasket.

To help keep debris out of the pinion and spur, yes? I wouldn't think it did anything at all to keep the bearings or diff clean.

Nice. The gasket looks familiar but I don't remember that company. Interesting. Thanks!

Now my vintage NIP outdrives can be put away never to be touched for a decade or so.
