My crappy Rc10-DS

By the way...i still love the way you cut the aluminum front part of the chassis and incorporated into the carbon chassis. I purchased a used DS chassis to make the attempt and cut as you did but i still havent tried it yet.

I loved it so much, I copied the idea on my RC-10 WOIN build.

What did you use to make the cut and how did it come out?

At first i was going to use the GT nose tube mounting posts but the carbon chassis it too narrow to make it work.

I was thinking using a Dremel cutting disk. If you have any pics please PM me.

Then i saw ra272's way of supporting the nose tubes and was awed. It is a clean and good looking fix.

I'm just hesitant on cutting a chassis.

Eventually i will get the nerve and try....

I have a couple of disks...plus a couple of practice chassis; I think i will give myself a weekend project if the wife doesnt give me one of those "honey do this" list.

Used a quick change cutoff wheel on my dremel. Just mark the area and take your time. The chassis I used was from a $5 swap meet RC-10 that had seen better days.

So, I decided to cut this crappy tub and keep the front and the rear part.





Ball burnished, polished, drilled, threaded, and anodized in black.



Same with the front part, I used the 3 existing holes in the carbon chassis...don't know what they were made for.





Now I can use the two original nose tubes.

I really like the way you did that! Giving me some ideas for my graphite WOIN build...

Good news, the DS is now painted.

After long hesitations, between the Penske Sunoco livery and the infamous Goodies Speed Shop "Gulf" Camaro, I've changed my mind.

After all, this a Rc10 "Graphite" DS so I've decided to make an interpretation of the original 1989 Graphite boxart.

Let me know what you think about it.

First road test today, it runs very well but I don't know how to gear it correctly. I've tried a 25t pinion with 81t spur gear, but it seems a little slow on top speed.

I have a 13.5 Robitronic sensored motor and a Nosram Matrix Power esc.

Looks awesome and makes me want to find a DS project of my own.
Here's my 2 cents on gearing.
To get a higher top speed you want to go with a smaller spur and to get more low end punch you go with a larger spur.
You can find the happy medium by doing the following.
Check your motor temps with the gearing you have now.
If your temps are low under 150 degrees or so try increasing your motor timing by 5-10 degrees at a time all while checking your temps.
If it's not quick enough for you yet then try going to the smaller spur and play with different pinions ranging from 23-28. Again keep an eye on your temps. On the timing I wouldn't recommend is going above 30 degrees but most importantly just keep an eye on the motor temps.
There is more to it than this but it a start.
