I figured my silence was good enough answer. :)
It failed spectacularly, I got hit on the track after about 5 minutes and the top split open just like it does with the original black ones. I knew it would happen, heck the parts fit so tight I was surprised it survived going together.

Thin 3D parts that don't have much surface area for adhesion don't work well under stress. The upper part of the bulkhead that meets the top brace is just such a terrible thin and weak design. Go look at the Duratrax Evader. Their copy of the XX redesigned that area to get away from that flaw. The Duratrax design is much better for strength.

So as of this time, October looks to be the start date for remaking the XX bulkhead with injection molding. I have a company that will start working on the CAD design for the tooling and then they will hand it over to a plastics company that I got a quote from way back in December. Shame Losi would't work with me, but they have other priorities.

Hmm, I was just thinking... what about a replacement top brace for the XX series that did away with the upper hinge mount? It would be useful to basically get more life out of a front bulkhead with a broken top hinge.

Put design it to go far enough forward to clear the xxt shock towers and include spacers to take up this space for the buggies?

I will add a rough sketch of this to this post from my tablet.

It should be able to be cut from a sheet of graphite or fiberglass if you could find it with thew right angle... It could be a "XX bulkhead saver brace" as it would save all those previously useless front bulkheads. As as it would use through bolts, for extra strength you can add a small thin nut to the slightly longer 4-40 screw to really reinforce things.

That is actually a very good idea at first glance. Only thing to really have to worry about I see so far is not making the front so wide it can't fit through the hole in the XXT shock tower. It couldn't be 3d printed easily, too thin and weak at that bend. So sheets of something would have to be the material.

The xxt front shock tower would be the one to worry about, you might have to narrow it down to just the two top bolts or neck down the area right behind the shock tower so you can fit one end through move it over and fit the other side through. Although just the two bolts at top would probably be more then sufficient if used with a 4-40 bolt and nut so the threads in the nylon isn't what is taking the abuse.

This would be pretty easy to do I think. You thinking Losi 22 size shocks springs?

Ok, should be real quick to change. Try and print it out in the next few weeks and see if it works with my 22 shocks.

Right now getting ready to test on the track the a5010 and a2000 replacements.

But just got this off the printer, had been on hold while I made the initial launch parts. The printer decided to crash the head into the upper left corner when it finished so ignore how bad that looks right now. Did a test fit and fit perfect right from the start. Now I have to try doing some different test prints using different methods to make the part easier to produce.

Soon I can print out a chassis... just kidding!

So you are the guy behind oldrc.com.. I love your parts.. I just bought some jrx2 steering arms not too long ago and some shock mounts.. nice quality.. the arms are beefy and mounted up pretty well.. just had to clean out the steering post holes as they caught up on my posts.. no biggie.. once quickly cleaned (2 seconds each.. so yea quick) they were perfect.. works great and looks great too.. love the shock mounts I got today as well.. going to swap them in soon on my jrx2 and have a set for my runner yoke build.. even came with the little wrench to install them.. nice touch.. great parts.. glad you are around.. got my jrx2 up and running again thanks to you.. keep up the great work..

Thanks again!
Shawn

Something has to be done about the front bulkheads, I just realized I am out of them again.

What's weird is that I thought I had 3 or 4 but I can't find them, but I don't recall using them. I'm getting old.
I miss brushed motors in that hazy, everything seemed better when I was a kid, kind of way.

These are getting track time right now. So far so good. Run them some more and then the real torture test. I am going to let my girlfriend, who can't drive an RC car to save her life, test them. I am scared she will break something else on the car and those will be fine.
