Maybe we need an "other" sub-category in the Reader's Rides section... I'm at the point where 95% of my vintage cars aren't RC10s, and I'm sure I'm not alone. The General section seems to have become a mess of off-topic and everything else "catch-all" where good stuff gets easily lost.

Just a suggestion. We seem to be evolving to more than just an RC10 forum.

I'll agree...it might be nice to have some more subgroups. This forum could be the next "Samba"... (a well established VW forum that started out focusing on VW busses, much like this site started out focusing on RC10's).

Have a look at the layout:

we've been kinda talking about that recently.

the general discussion area imo is just what it should be. just kind of a messy pigpen, like your friends room in jr. high where all the buddies used to hang out... ;)

we'll get it figured out soon and then start moving posts... you guys think it should just be as simple as branching out into stickied brand-specific sub forums within this one?

We set up sections on DirtOval.com and ApexSpeed.com and then build within those General Forums. It works pretty easily, and it's only a mild inconvenience to adapt to a new level of forums.

http://www.apexspeed.com/forums/

The neat part is that you can toggle and close forums that have no interest in, and leave open what you want. I don't recall how flexible phpBB is with forums and child forums, but it shouldn't be tough to do.

that toggle thing is, well its just weird to me. ;)

would you guys be cool with just like a general non-ae discussion and just brand specific sub-forums within it? that would at least be a start and we could go ahead and start moving posts into different sub-forums.

maybe just have brand specific subs for the more popular buggies, and be more vauge for the rarer stuff and have like 'vintage 2wd', 'vintage 4wd', 'vintage oval' sub forums?

my main concern is fragmenting too much and having some sub forums be empty or have like 1 or 2 posts in them.

sry to be discussing this in your thread doug.

No biggie. I think splitting it up into 2wd, 4wd, oval, truck... is a great idea. It could get way too fragmented if you did it by brand. I can't think of too many that would be tough to pick a general category like that.

Trimed and ready to mount, but I'm only going to bend the wire once, so it'll wait until it gets some paint and decals. :D Hopefully soon.

Just stumbled across this thread, figured I'd update it after 14 years. I own this car now, lucked into buying it a number of years ago. It lost a few decals over the years, I added a couple new ones of my own. Has some minor oxidation on the battery braids and solder. Other than that, she's still in great shape and is definitely the queen of my built JRX2s. I have one unbuilt kit still in the box that I hope to get the courage to build one day. But with a few nice built JRX2s already, including this one, it can be tough to justify opening up those original parts bags.

Here she is today, had these pics on my phone from about a month go when I was test printing some thin shock collars on my new 3d printer. If anyone wants some better pics I can go snap some.

What a car..... just how often has this popped up of various Google image searches! I remember when the thought of vintage R/C & the endless possibilities of all the potential cars I could now own (now I could actually afford them) had popped into my mind & the realisation that there was a 'scene' for people collecting, restoring & still racing vintage buggies. Looks like the car has found a good home. I'm not surprised the connectors/battery bars have corroded - its been plugged in all this time! :D

Funny you should be making 3D printed thin shock collars..... i've been doing the same!

Those look great! I'm having a hard time with the bottom side of my prints. I've only had the printer since December. I would be interested to know how you're printing those and what type of printer you're using. I'm printing with a Prusa MK3s+ FDM printer.
