Thanks for the measurements, however, that's not exactly the Axial case I was referring to. I don't know if you'll be able to help determine if a B4.1 diff is too wide or not.


Those mounting holes measurements you took should be the same for either of the Axial transmissions though. The holes do seem pretty close to a Stealth's but it would probably work best to start with an undrlled RC10 chassis.

even if the holes line up, look how high the outdrive will be.

I don't think it matters anyway. The outdrives require a imperial sized bearing, where the Axial case uses a metric bearing. I've got more photos to show that. It's quite close though.

the outdrives may be too high to use in offroad, or you may need longer bones.
on the axial they look high, similar to a trackmaster, with the trackmaster it's no big deal because most cars running a trackmaster are lowered for onroad/dirt oval applications.

It shouldn't be a huge difference in height. Going by the MIP changebox I've got, which has the same 52t diff gear, the outdrives are only about a 1/16" higher than on a stealth. The Axial case has a more material under the diff than the Changebox does but from the pics Ive been looking at it's not much...maybe another 1/16".

Even still though I'm thinking the raised outdrive can be compensated for by using Custom Works carriers, or something similar that has a mounting hole to raise the outside axle.

Some SC10/B4.1 outdrives that use metric bearings. 10mmx16mm

Reg, if you are poking fun at me saying you use the imperial system, it's okay. I'm just glad we aren't stuck using it up here. You guys want to use the metric system so bad you fractioned the inch into 10ths, lol. Too bad there are still 12 inches in a foot and not 10. And god knows how many feet you have to walk to get a mile...it's some random number though


Oh cool Phin, that will definitely help. Sorry, I don't have that Axial case to get some correct measurement for ya.

The outdrive height can be less of an issue if you use the custom works, rc10gt, or any other type of hub that raises the axle.

I think CK33 has a nice solution with a plate and couple of small pieces of delrin for a bulkhead, or even modding a stock one.

looking at the axial trans, the output shafts look to be 5mm, so maybe a traxxas trx1 type diff can fit, though B4 parts seem like the easiest/least expensive path.

at that point, how far do you go before you end up with a B4 with a plate chassis

Kyosho, HPI, and Tamiya all have 52t diffs with metric outdrives as well....so there's a few other options if the Associated parts don't work.

CK33 does have a fine solution, and I'm not trying to push the Axial trans as a better solution...I mean there's no way I even could since we don't know if the Axial trans will even work.

Honestly this is all just curiosity, and I only suggested it because oldmanian mentioned that he wanted a B4 trans in his next project. If the B4 parts aren't an easy fit inside the Axial case I'll just as soon suggest that the idea be scrapped because it's not worth doing.
