Our house is certainly not new, but not old either, compared to some here.... it was a War Services house, built in the mid-60s, in an area specifically for people who had served in WW2. My grandparents had it built, and my dad and uncles grew up here.

When my grandmother needed to sell to buy her way into a retirement place, we bought the house from her, not fully knowing the condition. It was a little tired, for sure, needed a bit of work, and her boyfriend had driven into the place a few years ago (!)... but we were not certain of exactly how much had been covered up.

For starters, the house, which is 3-bedroom, had 10 or more DIFFERENT wallpaper patterns. Sometimes multiples in the same room/hallway! In the three or so years since we have moved in, we have:
- Replaced the kitchen
- Replaced almost all the curtains and blinds
- Repainted the kitchen and dining room
- Installed ducted heating
- Replaced the tile roof
- Replaced the guttering all round
- Remodeled the bathroom with a new shower and vanity, and a resealed bath
- Removed wallpaper from the laundry, toilet, and lounge
- Replacement of some electrical, with more to come
- Removed a massive pile of junk from the back corner of the block, as well as a LOT of greenery removal (overgrown gardens)

This Christmas holidays, we decided that the lounge room needed to be repainted. No big problem, you would think.... room itself is about 6m x 5m. Unfortunately, due to the house being 45 or so years old, and with a minimum of maintenance having been performed over the years, we have had a slow time of it. Filling cracks all through the room has been a nightmare, with the window frames moving all over the shop... and the cracks in the plaster due to the leaks in the roof have needed to be filled and sanded and filled again.

At this point, I guess I should say that I work in IT, and have very little experience in proper house renovation (painting, plastering, etc etc etc).

The big idea we had with the lounge was to remove the old gas heater / furnace, installed in the chimney area, and board up the hole in the wall to give us an extra half-metre of loungeroom space. It seemed soooooo simple....

Been going for almost a week now, and only just beginning painting.... I don't like painting ceilings :( . I also don't like plasterwork....

Oh well, back to work next week.

alright, i've already been working on this friggin' room since march 2010, but it's almost at the finish line....... thank god. i'm sick off hearing my wife piss n' moan about it.

still have one more coat to put on some of the trim (the windows are done). doors have to be painted yet. install the desktop under the cabinet....... which i kinda wish taller. might have to change that at some point. have to build a shelf in the closet yet, too. i stripped, painted, and installed the back part of the heater covers so i could get the pipes back in place and install the end caps. that had to get done so i could finish the baseboard moldings along side the heater. i still have to redo the front pieces, i just put them on for fitting and haven't got back them. hoping to have the new carpet installed by the end of the week, maybe early next week.

hopefully, the kid will be back in his room in the next 2 weeks.....fingers crossed. then i gotta work on the trim in the hallway. i put in a new prehung door, and it's taller than the orignal door opening. so now, the original trim is a little too short. i was hoping to reinstall the original stuff in the hallway. so, i have to figure something out......

just paint an rc-10 related mural on the wall, that will spice it up a bit.

Thats different painting the ceiling the same color as the walls. I like it though, I think it fits the odd shape of the room well.
