Just came back from running three heats and a main in the VONATs track, and you guys are going to be very satisfied on how nice and smooth this track is, you can either air out and go wild or go you can roll over the jumps if you don't want to break anything.

I ran my Losi XX, and thankfully I didn't break once during qualifying, but my motor loosened up and I didn't finish the Main.

I met Mark Westerfield and the Raceway hobbies crew, what an awesome bunch of guys, very helpful and knowledgeable about off road racing, and Mark's RC10 is awesome, you gotta see how fast and smooth this car is.

I'm going back next weekend to practice some more, the people that are coming to the nationals, you're in for a fun time :D

here is a picture of the change we made to the track for Vintage Nationals. This change will be much easier to learn and get fast on....

Motel 6 just up the highway was $46/night plus tax. I'm not sure how swanky (or skanky) it is, but it's just a place to sleep, charge and cut comms. And they'll leave the light on for ya!!

I wanna see a vid of Technica rolling over this. His car I mean, not himself

  I think I can roll over anything :D

As for video, I have a cam corder, but now way to transfer from Cam to Computer.

Actually that double that you see on the picture, if you have enough power w/ stock motor, at the right angle you'll be able to clear it easily, I kept messing up in that jump because I was letting off the throttle too early and my rear tires were hitting the second jump and flipping me over, by the 3 heat I had it pretty much figured out.

As for the jump closer to the wall, is a nice smooth jump, you can either roll it or jump it and it has a nice landing.

I was running the whole day with a Vintage Old Trinity Slot Machine stock motor, and It ran pretty darn good, I must say, I made a couple of mistakes (whole bunch of them) but give me a break it was my first time in organized off road racing :x . Although I TQ'd (what ever that means) in first in the main. Not bad for a rookie driver with a Vintage car, running a brushed motor on NIMH batteries :D

Erich and Mark made the right choice in deciding stock motors for this vintage race, anything over 19T would be

Hey Erich,

How are heats going to be ran??

All the 2wd heats run first, then 4wd, then trucks....

or is it going to be staggered?

One heat of 2wd, then one of 4wd then trucks, etc etc.

I just want to plan accordingly, cause I'm only bringing one charger, 8 battery packs, and driving in two classes  it's going to be hectic. :D

I'm going to leave that up to Mark to be honest but I think its safe to assume it would be all the 2wd, then all the 4wd, etc.

I talked to the other owner tonight and it sounds like there's going to be a great turn out! He's considering (and I'll have to talk to mark too obviously) running the first round of qual on sat night if there are a lot of people. i totally agree bc all too often I've ended up sitting around the track till all hours on sunday night because they tried to squeeze too many racers into one day. I figure we're all going to be there already anyway... was anyone seriously just going to show up out of nowhere on sunday and race? Any thoughts?

I incorrectly posted a while back that quals were Saturday and mains were Sunday. So I was already messed up..... ;)

I was planning on being there by 10am on Saturday, so whenever you want me to run, I will!! Personal preference would be some qualifiers later Saturday to make sure Sunday is not as hectic. I'd rather be able to watch some of the racing and enjoy the atmosphere!

Get two qualifiers in on Saturday, then 3rd qualifier and Mains on Sunday. That way you guys will have a better Idea of who's running with who on Sunday's qualifier and main, then on Sunday, any late comers, will have the chance to at least run one qualifier and the main.

I sometimes get too involved in watching the racing, that I forget that I'm racing too, so I'm rushing over to my pit area, to get the car ready for the race

That's why I like corner marshaling :D there's nothing like watching the race from inside the track
