Yeah the paint on the springs was flaking off out of the box. The springs are stainless steel though, so no rusting.

Small spring discussion thread here:

It is interesting to see the different shade of anodizing on the shock caps. There is the modern dark blue, but then there is what seems to be an overlap with the brilliant cyan blue and the "motor plate" blue in the kits. It might be the lighting in the pics but you seem to have the cyan blue caps.

I knew I had read that post about painting the springs before. I just wasn't sure it was for these Traxxas springs. Thanks for the link. The shock caps coloring is pretty true to the pictures.
Slider status.

Dude, all the screw slots are tightened to the same position/orientation. You got issues...

Getting closer. I had this light blue material I used to wrap the receiver case. The color isn't perfect, but I wanted to try it. I will be replacing it with something closer soon.
The XL-3 controller looks right at home on this car. I am trying to set my electronics as close to the box art/manual photos as possible. I still need to add the Tamiya connector, and find a motor. Does anyone know what motor was used in the box art/manual photos? It appears the label was removed.

There probably are others, but both Wimpy and Black Magic modified motors had the black can and Air Supply endbell configuration that could match the photo. The Black Magic label is small and could be hidden without removing it by installing the label side down.

Are you going to put black front springs on to match the box or stay with the factory supplied silvers?

I'm not sure. I prefer the silver springs. This car is already different from the box art because of the aluminum drives, so I don't think I mind them being different.

I found some airplane wrap at my LHS in a color that is a great match to the wrapped receiver in the box art.

I noticed the front tires in the box art photo are thinner than the included tires. Does anyone know what tires these may be?
My front wheels look so toed out in the pictures. They are not actually this way. I think taking the picture from higher up will help with this.
