Re: Fresh Worlds build and a few questions
Anytime howaboutme. I will post some further updates when I get the JC diamond nose brace tubes installed, and when I paint the bodies.howaboutme wrote:Great job on the build! After reading through I realized you're the same guy that posted about the HW ESC and Motor and helped me with some soldering notes. I will be following along if you have further updates. That parts list you posted from your orders a few posts ago is super informative. Thanks!

Looks great!
Can you tell me what the JC diamond nose brace tubes does compared to stock? Besides sexier, is it stronger? I assume a major reason is it's lighter?
Thanks!

Re: Fresh Worlds build and a few questions
In my opinion, just by looking at them...they are a little thicker in O.D. than the stock tubes near the center and at the ends. Given that they are shorter by about 1/2", they are a bit more torsionally rigid than the oem tubes. The reason they are shorter is because JConcepts machined the length of their nose brace tubes to specifically fit the RC10 buggy. The stock tubes will fit the RC10 and the RC10T.howaboutme wrote:Looks great!

In my opinion, these tubes are definitely an upgrade in strength and weight reduction, as well as looks.

Re: Fresh Worlds build and a few questions
Thanks! That's very helpful.
Part of my research is to figure out why we upgrade. I understand, conceptually, that is is mostly about performance (speed, durability, handling, etc) with some aesthetics added in. But what each component does is what I want to start to get a handle on (there's so much). So appreciate the explanation.

Re: Fresh Worlds build and a few questions
Glad to help. I enjoy sharing what I know, and learning new things about R/C cars with my fellow hobbyist. I'm researching things all the time. Right now I'm learning about cnc.howaboutme wrote:Thanks! That's very helpful.

Re: Fresh Worlds build and a few questions
So Tower had moved the expected date they are going to receive shipment on the Futaba R204GF-E receivers from early-Dec to mid-Dec. I cancelled that back-order and ordered a Futaba R203GF 3-channel Rx from ebay with expedited shipping.
I like that the R203GF has an antenna (unlike the R204GF), so I can keep the vintage retro look of the whip antenna.

Re: Fresh Worlds build and a few questions
Funny..I got the R204GF-E because it has internal....guess i like the cleanliness of no antenna...
I do have the R203GF in my Hotshot. Just note that the antenna is VERY short. I didn't even use the antenna stand in my HS...

Re: Fresh Worlds build and a few questions
I just didn't want to wait for it to be in stock, lol. The antenna is short? I will just have to move the Rx closer to the antenna stay. I remember the old days when antennas were like a foot and a half in length!howaboutme wrote:Funny..I got the R204GF-E because it has internal....guess i like the cleanliness of no antenna...

Re: Fresh Worlds build and a few questions
Yeah, the specs say 7.5 inches but looks shorter to me...Because of my Rx location, mine only sticks out about 3" but doubt I have 4.5" inside the chassis....Anyways, I guess it all depends on the Rx location.
