This car is starting to take shape, I only really need to order shock towers, big bores and buy a motor.

I'll post a build thread when I receive some shock towers. I think it's more worlds with the stock wide arms than OIN but who knows where the line is drawn. This buggy will be a Hobbywing V3.1 boosted and turbo'd 8.5T. Our track is loose so the 8.5 is a perfect match.

I'm still stumped on which steering blocks to go with though.

Body above is a standard viper. I'll probably paint it like a box art graphite car.

I guess I'll just throw it together how I think it will work and see how it goes. Our track is pretty loose so changes will be hard to feel properly.

The trick will be to find the right balance of rotation and forward bite which is hard on tires. Two 5 min rounds is all you get out of a pair of holeshots on a 10.5 blinky stadium truck before they are totally shot, and thats trying not to spin them up too much.

Hopefully the AKA rebars offer a bit more tire life + forward bite. I think chassis weight balance will be the most critical followed by the usual.

The Jconcepts DD have a holeshot feel on the track, but wear in better and keep forward bite after the knobs have tapered. Not knowing your track etc- the AKA were very square and made my RC10 very squirmy.

I tried the DD's in stadium truck but they lacked the edge that holeshots had, holeshots have more drive but don't live long. I'll attest to green DD's having a longer life though so it may be a trade off. JC inserts are also softer so I may try one in a holeshot to see if tire wear improves or not. I say bring back M2 holeshots.

I've never used closed cell inserts but the AKA inserts feel weird in my opinion, sort of like a glued tire without any holes in the rim/tire.

One tire that also works really well, surprisingly lasts better than holeshots and also surprises on the time sheets are Flip Outs. They really work great when the track gets a bit dusty or hasn't been swept between rounds. The only problem with them being a small round tapered pin is that they feel quite squirmy compared to other tires.

My guess why the flip outs surprise on the time sheets is due the squirm factor. I think small tapered pins helps the truck rotate in the corner as they fold over but still bite into the track for extra drive due to the added pressure on the pins.

Worn Goosebumps work better than the Flipouts on the dusty tracks here, the flips lack the side bars that hold the car on side loads. Every time I've used holeshots I lose tread from shearing before the wear, and that sucks! LOL

i had some bald spots on my dd's this weekend, tires were still great, w/sauce.

i think i'm going to shelve my b4 for a while and race my ce in 17.5. i'm faster with the ce, its also more fun to drive.

I've had great success with Hot Bodies Gigabytes on my buggies. Look very similar to Holeshote/DDs and just seem to work better everywhere and last pretty long as well.
