Massive attack on the rear drive train, a lot of cleaning and polishing again, this project is coming along nicely, but it's not as easy as cleaning a RC10, beleive me

did you give it a run before you took it apart?

David, I am sending you three boxes..... these are my my "severe" restorations. You seem to be handling them so well, I figured you could do mine as well.

I think a serious and detailed how to is in order.

No problem Jay, but you know they could get lost in the mail if they come out too precious More seriously, I really enjoy restoring much more than building from new parts, it's sooooo releaving when you feel like you have saved an old buggy, especially when it's a rare one... Once done, of course you can watch at it all your life and share it with other people, and even run it from time to time, but it's not so much fun as restoring, but that's just me I guess...

About the "how to" guide, I have no secret at all and would share and answer any question, don't hesitate

Tennis elbow is already growing inside of me

I did not run it before as I was too afraid of breaking something, spare parts are pretty scarce for those AYK buggies as you know it... one day, maybe...

I saw a dirtcheap parts car on yahoo japan auctions this weekend. Difficult to complete subscription though and most of the people there won't ship abroad...

Too bad Ed Those cars really deserve to be salvaged... I have just realised one end of each dogbone was almost dead on mine... Darryn can you help me one more time?

That's the search you need , just copy it over into your browser and start looking for a pen-pal with Yahoo auction membership in Japan

There are nice things and many spare parts inthere now, but muchmore expensive than what I found over the weekend.
I should have gathered the picture: it had the rear bumper mounted inwards (no clue how the battery could fit this way). I got the link on my home-pc. will add it later.

check the NIB sidewinder: that's about 20.000BF!

Thanks for the linky Ed, I did not see any NIB Sidewinder though...

Let's get back to the resto guys, I have emptied and cleaned the rear shocks (the smell of the oil shock immediately took me back 20 years ago when I was rebuilding my Ultima Kyosho red shocks, same smell as the Kyosho green oil shock, amazing how a smell can bring back memories ). As you can see from the pic, AYK shocks are more than rudimentary (can i say that?), no hole is the pistons, just a rubber and two bushings...

Last pic is where the rear end is at the moment, I'll make some more progress later today, but all those alloy parts make it very slow, come on Karate kid, make than shine

Now time for a good and thorough tranny cleaning, that thing was full of old grease and dirt, now cleaned to the best Hope I'm not boring...

It is amazing what can be achieved with these wonderfull old Alloy cars.

A bit of metal polish, time, rag and a buffing wheel can turn a rough rock into a diamond.

Great job so far mate.....may be able to help you on the dogbone.
