Has anyone ever seen any more pictures of this truck?

I have some email’ing to do. But here’s a peek at what I’ve just acquired. (The truck on the right and the body is the truck that started this thread and I’ve owned a while.)

very cool. is that a losi hydradrive on the spur gear of the new truck?

That is a Hydradrive clutch. Now that it’s the weekend, I’ll take some better pictures in a little bit of what this car has that makes it so special.

Here’s a few more pictures or the new car. I’m actually hoping to authenticate this to be the same car as Brian Kinwalds pictured race winning car. Obviously some things look different. It’s been many years after. But many things are the same and very unique.

First is an overall shot in a similar angle of the magazine article.
This extra hole in the chassis in front of the clutch bell is present on Kinwalds car. I’m not sure what it’s purpose was but I haven’t seen it on any other car I’ve researched leading me to believe it wasn’t factory.
The rear shock tower is custom and modified in the same manner as the one in the picture.
The trans brace and rear bumper are also custom cut pieces matching.
The header and exhaust both match. The header matches the same one off that eventually made it to the RC10GT. The pipe is a Mccoy/Paris 1/8 pipe.
The head has a #3 scribed in it. I can’t see them at in the article picture but might be helpful to identifying the car.
The top plate has been trimmed and has the same bracket to hold the receiver. The plug ziptied to the chassis is an extension for the steering servo.
Out of the 6 or so trans braces I have nor any I’ve seen have been chamfered as such as this one. There’s also one less hole on the back side by the input shaft.

I wonder if this was the Dudgeon truck on ebay a while ago? I looked at it but wasn't in a financial position to buy it at the time.

I’m not sure if it was listed a while ago. The auction ended last Tuesday I think. The seller listed it with a start bid of $49. And I would have happily paid the final bid price for just the header and tuned pipe if I were to have found it alone. I was staggered, and pleased, it didn’t go anywhere near what my max bid was.

So far no replies on identifying who’s car this was. I’m hopeful it’s Kinwalds still. The seller didn’t have any good info. All I got from him was it was purchased in a large lot of R/C stuff about a year ago. His address is in Lake Forest CA. Same as AE. But when I googled his name I didn’t find any R/C related info tied to his name.

I knew it would be impossible for anyone to give a 100% answer. But this is good enough for me to move forward with restoring the car to the race winning article picture.

I’ve already started parts buying. I’ll try to take some pictures as I tear down and clean up. I’m going to use as much of the car as possible and just dye the parts I have to keep its originality. I’ll give the chassis a light soapy water scrub. I’m not going to go crazy with making the car “pristine”.

It’s another long shot, but Brian lived and traveled with Scott Hughes back in the day and Scott is running the Facebook page for Lunsford. You could probably reach out to him there and see if he notices anything that would confirm it or add to the story.

Hmmm, I swear it's the same truck as I nearly posted it in the ebay forum. I'm glad you ended up with it, and looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Parts are slowly trickling in. Won’t be long before the truck will look just like the RCCA article picture, “again”?
It’s almost a shame that my favorite cars are the box art cars and old racer restorations and replicas. The nostalgia of the way the cars look with their paint jobs is awesome. But it’s the one thing in this hobby I fear the most. I just spent about an hour slowly trimming away at this body. Trying to replicate the cutouts as cleanly as possible. I still need to follow up with a rotary tool and a fine grit drum so I don’t ruin it. But I’m almost done. Just a little more trimming when I flip the rear arms and mount the shocks. I’ll Be painting this one myself. I feel like I should be able to handle it. Anyone have any suggestions on the blue color?

That’s all the decals needed I have. More are on the way.

Overall the body came out, ok. One day I’ll learn and use liquid mask. But overall I’d give it a 4 of 10.

Got a little more done today. Did a general basic clean of the entire chassis while pulling parts to be dyed. Swapped the top shaft over to the standard Associated one. While pulling the trans apart I took some pictures of the differences in the trans brace compared to all the ones I’ve ever seen.
