keyence was an ausome speed control back in the day. i actually have 2 of those left. one stopped working and the other was brand new from keyence. i sent it in for repair and they sent me another one.

Yeah, I have two aswell. Both essentially new: a rapida pro and ex-straight..

I have almost a dozen Tekin FX PRO units that I've purchased over time. Not vintage but an insanely good brushed esc.

I have two novak and never had a problem. both are in original 10T's. Both seenlm to run cool but I have some heavy duty heat sinks on them.

I've ran both Tekin and Novak. I've had luck with both but fried my share of the Novak 610rv's. In fact all my 610rv's ran hot. Went to a 410 and never looked back. In fact I couldn't go back. No reverse anymore! "DID I JUST MAKE VINTAGE ESC JOKE"??? :lol:

I only owned one esc bitd - a Futaba FP-MC8 which was about the size of a pack of cigarettes and if I recall the box had a $109.99 sticker on it.
It ran for 2 seasons in 2 different cars (Hotshot & RC10)- mainly with 27t stock and Kyosho LeMans motors (down the the 240 series) on 6-cell 1200 packs.
One run with a 2300mah nimh & P2K motor after I pulled it out of storage in 2006 or so was all it took to do it in. ;)

My gold pan has a Futaba MC111B in it. Is this a decent ESC for a brushed motor RC10? I am running the stock AE motor in it. Not planning on racing, I will say its a bit jumpy at low speeds, tryed to sneak up on the dog in the living room, hard to creep along with the RC10 compared to my buddies Axial wraith. It will just creep along, or go very fast. If this isnt the best ESC, whats better without getting into high doller vintage ESC's for racing. I want to keep the RC10 all correct for its age. The Futaba set up was what was installed in the mid 80's by the original owner Mike

Very interesting thread. Which ESC models were the best and most reliable in 1994/1995? For use with say 13T max motors in an RC10.

The specs on the Futaba MC111B are quite surprising. 100A continuous forward with 400A+ instant. Pretty bullet proof for a late 80's esc.

I'd say Novak speedys were right up there in the early 90's but have since gone downhill. Cant really go wrong with a good name brand ESC, Novak, Tekin, Futaba.

I just had a look to see what retro ESC are available. Sorry to bring cosmetics into it, but some of them are fairly lairy colours! Novak in bright orange, LRP in bright blue, etc. When building a specific colour themed retro buggy this is a bit of a pain. However I did notice Tekin make / made a micro sized modern brushed ESC in plain black. If the sticker was removed it would be pretty much invisible in my buggy. It may not be 100% period correct for 1994, but it would look better than many options I have seen so far. Yes I have a thing for black! :lol:
