Yes, KO were the first one with the pistol radio, the EX1. Futaba had done a few "wheel" radios before, in a big brown square box. Then before that were the slot-adapted controllers... but the EX1 basically defined the standard that has lasted since then. There was a great thread showing all generations of the EX1 radio but I can't find it anymore

Hope you can bring that EX5 back to life!

It had all the bells and whistles from that era (EPA's, expos) and then some (3ch mixing, DCP,...) and PCM, already introduced by futaba in the prev-gen Magnum PCM... on top of looking bloody spectacular and being the first pistol radio with digital trims (again introduced by futaba with the stick FF3UCP)... and a cool two racks of LED's to actually display the trim position (see below big ATL pot). Ridiculously expensive too

This was the 599 of radios BITD It still feels "right" when you have it in hand. I believe a couple of members have even adapted 2.4G modules to fit to this radio as they like it sooo much. To me that's one of the landmark pistol radios, with, the original Ex-1, the first-gen magnum, and the sanwa (airtronics) "machine" (XL2) and mzechs (Caliper) series...

(and... er... I have three of them ... see... to each his own fetish )

I remember getting my radio back in the day. I worked at a hobbyshop and we were able to buy everything at cost. The radio feels solid and the strap kept you hand relaxed. I still have my original radio and have picked up 3-4 over the years.

As for the ko radios, I think have the same problem with an ex5. I think it's new, but I can't seem to get it to work.
