Jay,

This will make you laugh. I packed the diffs full of vaseline, sounds like the wrong stuff but its free and does work. Im using the gear diff specifically to test the belts properly as that should help me find the correct tension on the rear belt. Two tensioners on the rear belt and one for the front.

Well, I think that a properly designed diff can work quite well, just wondering if you had modified existing cases to accomodate oils or not. -Jeff

Jay,

Ive taken it apart cleaned it, stuffed it full of vaseline (sounds dirty) and screwed back together and thats it. Diffs are on the agenda but only after the layshafts been built to use a b4 slipper clutch (being made as we speak) and the front gearbox and pivot blocks get made. Possible that sometime next year we will work on the diffs. When i get started i cant stop.

First question iso asked. Rear hubs narrow the rear fractionally and make the rear more dosile so it follows the front more. Also gives more height adjustment and thought you knew this as i first tested this 10 years ago. Doh!!!

Car looks stunning especially with my shock towers and rear hubs. Whats your thought on the handling characteristics since you made the changes? Also why use the zx-5 front hubs, isnt the size fractionally off as when i used the zx hubs on the zxs it wasnt the same width and why have you made the rear wider. Have you tried without the spacers between the hex and hub as it makes the rear narrower.

Well, the rear width is the same as the ZX5 FS. If you look closely, I have re-drilled the a-arms to accomodate the newer version rear hubs. Having a hub with a further hinge pin offset (compared to stock), makes the car more supple in rough corners. Since my local outdoor track can get rutty, it made sense for me. I have really only run the car a few times, and it has always been with the mods I currently have. So I have little input in regards to stock.

I originally fitted the ZX5 front hubs to gain more caster, as the team line or kyosho versions were hard to come by. I used the ZX5 steering knuckles as a better option than the cast ZX versions. Overall I think the car is at max width front and rear. I do plan to adapt the ZX5 FS/SP front knuckles and blocks in the future. Two reasons, first is the same as previously stated for the rear (more supple in rough corners), the other is so that I don't have to carry two different style front wheels to races  . -Jeff

Ok interesting, so low grip surface. High grip lessen the rear width.

Wheels i would advise buying Annsman madrat wheels front and rear as they are a perfect fit compared to the original and new rear wheels.

Still if you do upgrade to the new hubs please update us all. Would be interesting to see what you do.

-Not the Losi front per se, but the ZX5 SP/FS/FS2 front pieces yes.

-Dont know who made the suspension pieces. I pulled them from a used car ai got from england. I had them re-anodised i9n the same color as all the other parts.

-Under hood pics? -Someday

-Yes a Kamtec. I think they have very nice products. -Jeff

Nice Lazer You´ve got there.
Oh no - these are all vintage Lazers. The other ones are called ZX5 and are driven by a long piece of alloy, called a shaft
