I thought I've read on here before about Robinson Racing products generally being of poor quality? Maybe it was one specific product of theirs? I've personally never had any problems with their stuff before but I also haven't run much of it to really form an opinion.

I've read that too, I seem to remember it was something about a spur gear for a Kyosho that was not manufactured very well. That's about all I can remember.

Okay...I saw this again this afternoon at work...and now I've had a bottle of red wine in me. I can't help but shake my head at this. Somebody with machining equipment seriously had TOO MUCH TIME on their hands to come up with this ridiculous idea.

It doesn't even function particularly well, considering that the bottom edge of the bearing, which would rest on that conical alloy piece, is touching the piece INSTEAD of the upper edge of the bearing, which would otherwise significantly reduce the back-pressure a great deal once compressed air is forced inside that hole. REALLY bad execution of an idea that really wasn't ever necessary in the first place.

Soak the bearing in WD-40, put the friggin' bearing in your mouth and BLOW. Yeah, I realize some people here will jump all over that innuendo, but be that as it may...this "bearing blaster" idea is absolutely stupid.

I simply soak bearings for a while in WD-40, which gets rid of all the oil & grease, then use compressed air and/or a toothbrush to clean out the gunk. Re-lube with your favorite oil and you're good to go.

I gotta laugh at all these expensive niche products that get manufactured which cater to all these hobbyists who pay for a supposedly premium product but they work no more effectively than readily-available el-cheapo everyday items.

Other good examples of these niche products are the Parma FaShine Lexan body "polish" that claims to make the body more aerodynamic, but all it is is a grit-less Lexan cleaner, you could accomplish the same thing with rubbing alcohol, and go even one better by rubbing down the body with automotive polish or scratch & swirl remover (Nu-Finish does the job); and Novus, an expensive range of polishing compounds that cost way more than el-cheapo 3M rubbing compound/polishing compound/Nu-Finish Scratch Doctor.

I'm not saying the products aren't effective, I'm sure they are...I'm just saying they're way overpriced and there are much cheaper alternatives that are just as effective.

Yet another example might be Gold Celebration sets, when the regular set does just fine.

To be honest, I didn't actually go out and buy a Gold Celebration chassis, believe it or not. One of my buddies BITD had a Turbo Optima & Salute and spare parts, and sold off all his stuff to me and another friend when he lost interest in the hobby. The price was cheap enough, we each took a car and divvied up the parts and "upgrading" my Optima with the gold parts was just a bonus.

Besides, that's not a good analogy. Regardless of the color, either chassis set performs a similar, useful function. Maybe mentioning the Tamiya Avante over-engineering might've been a better analogy.

i actually made my own bearing blaster, it works great and it's free. next time you go to the doctor and they leave you wait in the exam room take a couple of the plastic ear scope tips out of the dispenser rack. i took 2 of each size because i didnt know what size i needed. i used the one that i could fit a motor spray straw through tightly with some heat shrink over the seams to seal it. place 1 down on the table thread a 4/40 screw in the hole, slide your bearing over it, then set the other one with the straw on top of the bearing on top. place the whole thing inside a empty spray cap and flush out the bearing. i will have to post pics so you get a better idea.

Please do, I am sure I could construct my own but I would like to have an original. More for use, than having an original piece.
