Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
Vintage options have pro's and con's: vintage parts made for your car are a sure and direct fit but if you run, you may want spares and availability can get to be a problem. Modern parts are readily available but you may have some work on them to make them fit, even sometimes find out they're not working for you.
The carbon set, yes, cool but I'd try something a little more personal. Countersinking is pretty easy to do yourself by the way.

Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
Just picked up some andys wide front arms last night on ebay. I will have to take a break from buying stuff for a couple of weeks, but I will be sure to post some progress pics with what I have.
Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
Here are some pics of the tear down, I am using my phone for pics and internet right now so its a pain to upload stuff right now lol, I will post the rest of the the pics later. For some reason when I was younger I had filled the gearbox with white grease, I thought it was a good idea then though lol, pics of that later. Does anyone have any suggestions for degreasing and cleaning the nasty old parts?

Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
Here are some pics of the teardown. Sorry about the quality, these are from my cell phone.
For some reason I thought this was a good idea as a kid

Broken link I repared when I was a kid, and bent front shock tower

Little box I made to hold my drivers, really handy item!!

Another pic of the goodies that go on the front

Here it is put away for the night

Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
Any recomendations to clean this stuff? I bought greased lightning degreaser, not sure if it is safe on the plastic parts, I think it will be if diluted. LMK. Thanks.

Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
So your the one who snagged those front arms from me
Yeah simple green works good, I fill a glass jar up with it and let the parts soak for awhile, they come out looking good.
Nice shadowing job on your toolkit, I do the same at work. I think your on your way to a cool Ultima, have fun.

Just don't soak the aluminum parts in Super Clean. It's extremely corrosive and will destroy the parts.

Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
Hey ace, I can find you an original front bulkhead from my LHS if you like (they have one left). Or you can get the one from the ST-15 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXWZ18&P=7 .
Let me know, PM me.
This Ultima is going to be pretty cool, and is getting me in the mood to finish my Turbo Ultima and starting a new one.
Keep up the good stuff.

Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
i dont know if it was recommended or not at the time, i never used any grease inside the tranny other than diff gears or on diff balls. running without it made the tranny smoother for me. i know those trannys come with the little service door to squirt grease in there, but i think its a waste. it may prolong the life of the gears over time, but i think it slows things down

Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
I only used that opening to put a squint of thick oil on the topgear before a race day.
Some thick grease in the gear diff can be usefull after some time. If you really run the geardiff long time it gets too smooth for some conditions.

Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
I used to run a dry lube in the transmission. I got tired of that black gunk that wouldn't come off your clothes if you used a regular grease.
