Yep it's all exactly what I said.
After everyone else said it first.

Thanks for the compliments on the RC10, fellas. Like I say, it is far from finished. The intention is, however, to maintain the complete vintage look but at the same time rebuild it completely replacing any parts that don't look new (most are already unused), giving each white plastic part a solid bleaching (I've tried this and if you then let the plastic dry in the sun the bleach reacts better and whitens the parts a bit more - still not perfectly though), polish the rims, add some chrome backed original lights as well as some anodised knock-offs (gold or chrome; not sure yet), and bring it to full working order although it will be a shelf queen principally.
I'm also intending to do the same with my 1990 RC10 championship edition.
Question is: for the vintage feel, do I need to install the mechanical speed controller or is it ok to install an electric one?

Should have also added that I'm looking for some chrome shock collars.....can't seem to find any, so may have to get them done professionally at a place nearby!

I'd go with an electronic speed control. If it was box stock, I'd consider the mechanical speed control but realistically, anyone who built an RC10 like that back in the day most likely would have upgraded to an electronic speed control first thing.
I don't think I've ever seen chrome shock collars. I'd leave them stock myself.
