Wow, that's like a 6.5:1 final ratio.... Are you sure you didn't mean 18t pinion? 28 seems a little large. Most stock brushed motors (I know you are using BL in this case) like a 9.5:1 final ratio for 2wd buggy. (please understand I could be entirely wrong here) In my case when switching to BL from Br, I only made a 1-2 teeth larger change on the pinion.

Actually that's a pretty good/safe starting point for a 17.5. Some guys go even higher. We've been running 5.6 to 6.4 FDR, even with some timing from the speed control. Some guys are using no slipper adapters so they can run smaller spur gears. Definitely start with the smallest spur that fits/is available. I know its hard not to think you are going to lose punch, but it never seems to happen. It still attacks the big Supercross style jumps.

Of course whether or not you want to run a vintage car like this is perhaps another matter, but the 17.5 motors can handle it. Unless perhaps if its significantly overweight, or an older higher drag tranny (6 gear? bushings, etc). The gearing mentioned is on a modern buggy right at the weight limit, using lipo.

But we also run brushed 27T stock higher, up around 8.0 FDR, so your mileage may vary as they say. Of course with brushed you can't run real long this way, but no issue so far with the brushless.

Yeah, I had just raised my ride height before the race and I raised it a bit too much The diff needs to be rebuilt pretty bad too, it will get a little more tweaking here and there but overall its pretty close to where it needs to be. I'll work on posting a setup sheet for it when I'm satisfied with it. Then I get to work on the vintage 4wd
