Steve,

Thank you for taking time out of your undoubtedly busy schedule to join us! I think the question I would most like to ask you and your father would be:

What prototype vehicles and parts DIDN''T make it to production? (Pictures please!!!)

Thanks again for your time!

X2!!!

Roger Curtis shows the RC500 shock test prototype in the video "The winning edge"

He says "this was No. one, right here"
It has trailing arms front and rear

Yes I am well aware that it was in 1984, it says so in the RC10 manual, I wanted to know which month, and preferably which actual day?

Maybe there is a flyer for the release of the RC10 somewhere in the archives of AE or some private collector that shows the exact date (even if there's no date on it I'd like to see such a thing), and maybe they could scan it for us to have a look at?

Cheers,

Alistair G.

I picked up one of these off the counter of my LHS (RCH on 19th street in Costa Mesa CA) months before the "release". I too have racked my brain trying to remember when the first "shipment" came (across town in this case as Santa Ana and Costa Mesa are adjacent). :? Someday we will figure it out. My dad's checkbook may show it    .

Roger Curtis designed that logo. I don't know which year it was released.

If I remember rightly, their design made them too limited to be used on a wide variety of tracks.

Did you hear from rc-guys how often that the gold tube chassis car was too heavy, compere to ultima that was very light car.
Did you ever consider trailing arm system in the early days for the rc10.

I must see if I could find my rc1 and put some pics over here.

At the time the RC10 came out to the market is was light weight. In time many people drilled holes in the chassis to make it lighter. We later made a light weight "milled" chassis to make the chassis lighter.

We tested a trailing arm system when developing the original RC10. We settled on the "A arm" type and the rest is history.

Thanks.
Love to see pics of the trailing arm car.
Who came out with the name STEALTH, it is so perfect for the rc-stuff.

There are no pictures of the trailing arm car, sorry.

We came up with the name as we were making the Australia Worlds Car. We didn't want anyone to take pictures of the car so that no one could copy it. This is when we made the newer transmission with a slipper clutch as well.

Hi Steve-
I was cleaning my closet and found a letter from Midge Husting - Associated Electronics dated 11/4/89. She wrote,

"I received your letter regarding the new RC10 gearbox. Cliff Lett, Jay Halsey and Masami all used a new gearbox at the recent World Championships in Australia and won with it. We came home from that race and decided it was too complicated to sell the way it was. So now they are designing another one that will be easier for the racers to put together. But so far it is in the designing stage and not ready for distribution at this time.

Hope this helps you.

Sincerely
Midge Hustings"

Can you tell us what changes were made from the World Championship gear box to the production Stealth version?

Thank-you
