Just for a giggle I printed another Marui Samurai in one piece from the assembled CAD file .
Ultimately it failed as two wheels came out flat on the bottom.
Before you judge too harshly look at it next to my white Samurai runner

Found another free 3d scanning programme to use with the Xbox Kinect scanner , this one is way better ,it's has no limit to the polygons so you get way better detail . This print was then smoothed by painting on 3d printer resin and curing with a UV lamp then sanding to remove all layer lines , after sanding it's the been painted .
Quite pleased really , the old one is just no comparison .

Looks great Dadio!
What scanning software are you using? I am picking up a used Kinect today and am looking at Skanect as an app.
I have been experimenting with photogrammetry lately, but it isn't working for me for the fine details.

I tried photogrammetry but never got the results seen on YouTube

, the first head print was done with Skanect free version , it limits the number of polygons in the model so when you print large scale it's very low poly looking , if you pay for it it's better .
The second head was done with Reconstructme , it's a simpler process to use than Skanect and is not hobbled in the free version either .

Thanks. I had read of the limitations of the free Skanect, and Reconstructme had come up multiple times in my reading. I will look into it.

I feel with Reconstructme the limitation is the Kinect scanner , it's designed to detect the movement of a human size target object , I just can't get any more detail than you see in the second head and for scanning small things it's really sketchy .
Things to do to get the best scan are .
1 being able to rotate the target object or person exactly on the spot , I found a swiveling bar stool best .
2 lighting , you need good ambient light .
3 the surface of the object must not be too reflective or shiny , Lexan bodies are terrible to scan , talcome powder dusted over shiny surfaces or a face powder on your face , if you have a shiny bald head it will just a hole in your head scan .
4 distance to the scanner , I found between 1 and 2 feet is the sweet spot .
5 if your doing a head then start scanning the back of the head , at the end of the scan it has to stitch the begining and end together and it can make mistakes , rather than ending up with two noses it's better to have two locks of hair at the back of your head .

While clearly undesirable results, both of these sound hilarious to me.

Started remodelling up gears from scratch for the Dogfighter 834b , did a far cleaner job this time and I've got them being printed by Shapeways now , if they turn out good I'll add them to my shop .
Then moved on to the Delta Desert Dog conversion set , again I cleaned it up a bit and stuck it on Shapeways , it designed as an artists impression not a direct copy and is compatible with the stock chassis .

For the suspensions, sometimes, it is a bit funky... I had to set limits on some joints other wised the whole stuff get in weird impossible positions
